THE REPETITIVE SALUTING!
WHAT'S THAT SALUTING FROM, ANYWAY?
IT'S FROM ONE OF THE MOST MOVING, BEST DIRECTED, BEST ACTED, BEST SCORED SCENES OF ONE (IF NOT THE) BEST SERIES I'VE EVER SEEN*.

* Homicide: Life on the Streets. And the episode is Crosetti. Basically the context is this: A cop (also a prior member of the main cast) commits suicide, which is why he is denied the ususal Guard of Honor (all the other cops dressing up in their best gala uniform saluting before the deceased colleague). However, the whole episode revolves around the case of Crosetti's death and the fact that the police officials won't let Crosetti's family and friends have the Guard of Honor. It also has a subplot in which Detective Pembleton (the wonderful Andre Braugher) refuses to attend the funeral service because he hates the church. He even argues with his partner and his lieutenant (played by Yaphet Cotto, who is just as great) about it, who both get quite mad at him. However, the very last scene of the episode shows the beautifully directed and masterfully edited funeral march, which is set to incredibly emotional sax music. The main cast slowly follows the catafalque through the streets of Baltimore where they even pass the police office. The moment they pass the door a lone man wearing a police gala uniform can suddenly be seen at the door. It's Detective Pembleton who salutes in honor of his former colleague. He is doing the Guard of Honor. The moment is repeated three times from three different angles (a typical device of Homicide), which adds an enormous amount of emotional impact to this scene.

Man, I can't even write about it without getting goosebumps and tearing up a little. :shifty:
