Quick! Update your Facebook status! Someone might actually give a sh*t

This is for Facebook users. Anyone else really hate those people who update their status' literally every 10 minutes or so?

What is all that about? Usually with mindless drivel such as "...is tired" or "... is bored"
...wow. Thank you so much for sharing with me such pivotal vital information about yourself. I must write that down.

I found a group on the subject and it made me laugh a lot-
See here
For all those who can no longer stand seeing "...is tired", or "...has had a wonderful weekend, thanks Jim". Who the f*ck is Jim? I don't care.

I don't care if you've got a headache, if you're hungry, what you've done the night before. I especially don't care when you update your status every 20 seconds. No-one cares, that's why they don't message you about it.

Get a f*cking job instead. You know who you are.

Unless it's funny or tragic, no-one will be impressed.
And the examples below that are great.

I have a "friend" just like that, updates his status about 15 times a day usually. All with crap like "... is hungry" and stuff like "...is watching Mr & Mrs Smith" and then 2 hours later he'll put "... has finished watched Mr & Mrs Smith"
I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!

Got so fed up of it this last week I just hid all his comments from my feed from now on.

Generally for me I'll update mine maybe 2-3 times a week max. And I always try and put something at least mindly interesting, or mostly just something funny.

Anyone else get this a lot?

Our cyber culture is turning many people into mindless zombies (maybe myself included). There's a good book out there tackling this very same issue--the proliferation of narcissistic self-authored sites. TMI.

I don't care if someone updates their facebook status often. I'm not forced to respond to it or care. I do hate constantly having application results and invites on my feed. I've started banning people from my feed and at this rate, there won't be anyone left!

Facebook isn't exactly supposed to be meaningful, though. I don't go there for intellectual enrichment.

Re: Quick! Update your Facebook status! Someone might actually give a

The problem is that this latest version of Facebook blurs the line between status update and wall posting. It's very easy to think you're posting on your wall, but in fact be updating your status in the process.

An older version (which was stolen and is currently employed in Russia as вКонтакте) was much more clear about when and how a status update was taking place.

Much of this status spam is the product of bad design.

Re: Quick! Update your Facebook status! Someone might actually give a

There is a way to disable your updates from being sent to all of your friends. Actually you can turn several things off under settings. For example, I have it set so that anything I post to someone's wall doesn't post to everyone's feed. I have also done the same thing with pictures, videos, etc.

And I am a bit guilty of updating my status during the day but most of the time I am making a statement, voicing a musing or posting a joke. The moment I start letting everyone know that I have just had "a good poop" or "moved to the other end of the sofa" is the day I hit "delete account" and pull the plug.

However, I can deal with the silly updates. I just can't stand everyone's manic need to collect useless friends. I actually want to communicate with the ones I send a request too or accept something from so I refuse to collect random folks to see my friend count go up. Basically I only "friend" people that I want to be actual "friends" with.

I thought that was what Twitter was for. Which is one reason I don't have a Twitter account.

Re: Quick! Update your Facebook status! Someone might actually give a

Yeah, I just about never use the status feature. Nobody gives a shit what I'm doing and I'm not about to pretend otherwise. Others don't share my mindset and I have my news feed set up accordingly.

Re: Quick! Update your Facebook status! Someone might actually give a

Oh, I have Twitter, and that's where I post some of my daily musings and ramblings. At least I don't overdo it.

One thing about adding friends. Like AstroSmurf, I dislike collecting random friends just for the sake of having 10,000 people on my contact list. When I first signed up using my real name, I got all sorts of invites from people at work, some of whom I consider friends. There came a point, however, when I felt I wasn't all that interested in playing stupid online games, let alone reading about what they were doing, etc. So I canceled that account.

About a month ago, I created another account using an alias. Thus far, I have three contacts--my sister and two online buddies. I'm hiding from coworkers. I figure I already see them at work and that's the scope of my interaction with them. Networking sites are good for keeping in touch with long-distance friends and family, but they're not, IMHO, popularity tools.

P.S. The reason I signed up again was that I wanted to check out the profiles of two "real-life" crushes. Both of them are listed (one private, one public).

I once sent a group email to all the friends in Facebook that used to do that. I'd post that email here but I think I deleted it. It basically said that "you guys are not as important as you think you are so STFU and update only when it's funny or worthwhile."

After that email was sent I don't see anyone updating their statuses like that anymore. I felt even more important after realizing that. :borg:

Re: Quick! Update your Facebook status! Someone might actually give a
