Questions, I've Got Questions!

Ooh, so I have a question. This is one that I thought about when it happened but kept forgetting to bring it up in here....

If the island, seemingly, heals people (Locke's legs, Sun and Jin's infertility, etc.) how come Jack got appendicitis? It would seem that he angered the island somehow.....

Ben got cancer. I'd imagine whatever happened has the same cause.

That's a damn good point. I'm generally very observant and should have picked up on that. Thank you. We still don't know why but at least that's something that makes sense and links them together.

Jack wasn't supposed to operate on Ben.

The island said Ben was going to die and that was that.

Maybe Ben was supposed to die to pave the way for Locke. When Ben thwarted Jacob's wishes by bringing in Jack, Jacob got pissed and decided Ben would be the one to move the island, all while still bringing in Locke. Meanwhile, Jack gor appendicitis as a not-so-subtle hint to take it easy and quit trying to leave, which he stubbornly ignored in true Jack-fashion.
