&It's very obvious to me that George Lucas, quite simply, does not understand women (he may even be gay).
Your evidence that Lucas might be secretly gay is that he doesn't understand women? Do you mean to say this lack of understanding is defining trait of gay men? Because that's a fundamental implication of your statement.Lots of gay men are married to women, for any one - or combination of - reasons. My only criticism with it is that it takes too long for Williams' music to kick in. I get the decision to allow Ben Burtt the opportunity to showcase is sound-design-fu, but the result is that when the music kicks it, it feels out of place and overly melodramatic.I did too - for the most part. It was a CGI tour de force that was actually thrilling and delivered more or less what it was designed to: display Anakin's incredible piloting skills and show off the then-new and recent CGI imaging technology by creating a slew of cool and interesting aliens who were also in the race.
TPM has some major flaws but the Boonta Eve Podrace isn't one of them.

I really liked that scene. Very powerful. It does hint at a more psychic, or Force-based connection between Anakin and Padmé.You can also see the long distance connection between Padme and Anakin in the scene just before he leaves the temple to save Palpatine. She appears to looking at him in the temple as he's thinking about Palpatine's words about saving Padme's life.

Plus Williams' music is haunting.

Good stuff. It's a tad wonky unless you think she has a a psychic bond and brainwashing and Force reconstruction of her neural pathways over time all of which are shattered by the builder of these things trying to kill her. Killing the very structures of "love" he has built.
This.As to how it worked on the screen without all these interpretations, it didn't IMO. I think the birth scene is terrible, embarrassingly bad. It looks like some clunky 70's sci fi, awkward and disconnected from real people. I went from adoring Padme in TPM to hardly being able to watch her death because it was so cheesy. Even the camera angles are weirdly amateur looking, like a bunch of school kids who had no understanding of birth and death were doing the "okay, and now she dies and ROBOTS!" scene. I remember thinking, I should be crying now but this is fucking awful.

Rorschach inkblots are so interesting, aren't they!

The word regarding the birth scene that came to my mind was "sterile".
