Question for Marco and Co.

TJ Sinclair

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Whatever happened to Split Infinities? Has the project been shelved indefinitely, or converted into something else? What's happening with it?

Hang on, let me dust off the file...

<COUGH! COUGH!>

Ah! Here we go. Says here, "IN DEVELOPMENT."

Oh, wait. The file just disintegrated with age. So much for that idea...

Okay, seriously: It's not dead. It's not even in limbo. It's just waiting for me to find the time to focus on it. And I will, I promise. I hope to be able to announce something about it by year's end.

And it'll almost certainly be called something other than Split Infinities because, in the years since I first announced the project, the Star Wars folks apparently came out with something analogous called Infinities.

I've been thinking of retitling the ST project Apocrypha. Opinions?

Ooh, I like it. Can't say why precisely, but I like it. Considering all the discussion regarding canon lately, it's even a topical title.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I like it, but a lot of people probably aren't going to have any idea what it means.

How about taking a cue from Jerome Bixby and calling it Hall of Mirrors? :D

I like it, too! As for those who don't know what it means, they can look it up in a dictionary. I did. :D ;)

That's a good title, but I've been reluctant from the get-go to use any "mirror" references for this project because, in a Star Trek context, they've traditionally been used for that specific alternate universe.

Well if not Mirrors specifically, what about things related to mirrors, yet open enough?

Example would be, say, if "Through Looking Glass" where used, everyone would think Mirror Universe. What about Reflections, though? That's not directly mirror-related. Reflections appear in many surfaces, yet it's close in mind to mirror/s.

Ahh.

Well, what about Ripples?

My line of thought is this. No Mirror - Mirrors have Reflections - What else have Reflections? Ponds. Ponds have Ripples outward from something pentrating the surface. The multiple universes all expand outward in similar fashion with every choice and action resulting in another.

Or, Echoes?

Parellels was the title of TNG episode that dealt with multiple-alt. universes...?

What about "Tapestries"? Hearkening back to the TNG episode of a similar but singular title, this would reflecting choices the characters made, and how things might have been different had another choice been made in their place.

Perhaps Star Trek: Divergence...? This title would be in relation to the moment when (if your storyline concept mirrors the SW "Infinities" in form and style) the two realities diverge, creating an alternate timeline. Just another suggestion to add to the bunch. I look forward to seeing Picard assimilate Earth.

:D

Perhaps it would help me follow this thread if someone told me what the hell this book is supposed to be about.

^The premise is basically "what if..." scenarios. For example, what if Picard stayed as Locutus? What if Lore was discovered first instead of Data? What if Kurn was raised by humans and Worf by Klingons? And so on.

Apocrypha sounds good, but what about
[*]Forks in the Road
[*]Alternatives
[*]Alternity (if Allyn doesn't mind :D)
[*]Different Beginnings
[*]Roads
[*]Fragments ?

Ughh... haven't we had enough one-word plural titles in Trek episodes? Bloodlines, Brothers, Rascals, Ethics, Basics, Relics, Rivals, Riddles, Schisms, Facets, Faces, Phantasms, Parallels, Projections, Lifesigns, Liaisons, Lessons, Explorers, Hunters, Masks, Clues, Cardassians, Whispers, Suspicions, Maneuvers, Alliances, Resolutions, Emanations, Violations, Investigations, Initiations, Transfigurations, Generations.
