Question for Introverts

Well computer interaction is the one form of socialization I don't find appalling. Been using computers to interact since the 80s, BBSes and such. I have always avoided chat rooms though.

Not entirely sure if I am introverted or just can't stand people.

LOL we really must invite Vert-eron to this thread!

I think everyone who is curageous enough to publicly post in a thread about introversion would propably not fit the classical definition of an introvert.
Maybe nobody is an introvert all the time?

Perhaps or because it's easier for introverts to say they are introverts to fellow introverts than to extraverts, as they feel they are less likely to be judged.

Perhaps it's also easier said over the net. On the other hand, I don't think I have to say it in real life for most people to figure it out:)

^Quite true.

Besides we know it's the quieter introverts that change the world, the louder extraverts only take credit for it. ;)

I agree with this since it's happened to me in the past. It was mainly because the person(s) in question didn't understand the meaning of "introvert" as it applies to personality types though. I think some people see introverts as shy and/or anti-social, which is not always the case.

My opinion is that anti-social is very rare among introverts. Perhaps it happens if fear/anxiety gets a grip on a person, but this can happen to all personality types. Introverts want to be a part of society, we just participate in a different way. Sometimes our eyes and ears are more active than an extrovert's mouth.

Shyness is much more common, especially when we are young. But, introverts are problem solvers and often we can extricate ourselves from that affliction.

Precisely. I am also of the specific I-type that gets tagged with the "anti-social" comment maybe more often since I am very objective and do not wear my emotions on my sleeve (i.e. what's happening inside is generally not apparent on the outside).

I think I'm generally tagged as aloof, at least by those who don't know me.

True, though it might perhaps be fair to say those who are more shy likely lean more towards the introvert side of the scale. One other possible difference is that introverts/shy people are likely to have one or two very close friends rather than a larger group of friends.

Many people described Richard Nixon, the former president, as introverted, shy, uncomfortable in social settings, a loner. Yet he was at one time the president of the United States, as public a person in the world as you can get.

You can read biographies about him about speculations on why a person with such a personality would choose the path that he chose.

I think many people will be surprised at how many Introvert leaders they are/have been.

Possibly for the same reasons that some of us here who teach don't have a problem with public speaking, it's just less comfortable or easy in social situations

Quite likely comes down to comfort levels, the more someone knows about a subject the more comfortable they can be talking about it, when talk veers towards topics they are less comfortable talking that come across in a negative away to others.
