Question concerning nuEnterprise

Okay, I'll state my apology in advance if this particular topic has been brought up in this forum at any time since the film came out.

All in all, the changes to the ship don't really bother me that much, save for one: The placement of the bridge. About half-way through the movie, the camera rotates in a manner that clearly shows the bridge is located on the underside of the primary hull, which leave me with the question:

What the hell is located on Deck 1, where the bridge has ALWAYS been located previously?

Does anyone have any insight on this? While I have a tough time liking this idea, I have to agree with my wife, it's probably a much safer location for the main nerve center of a starship. But it still just felt very out of place to me.

Just my .02 worth.

The film didn't always depict the ship "right side up," space has no up or down.

My two cents is that the bridge seems to be on deck two, or possible three, based on where the external window is.

T'Girl, I'll have to pull out the DVD and take a look again. You're absolutely right about there being no up or down in space, basic law of physics there, but I'm certain I remember the camera pulling the shot out from the bridge through the viewscreen/window, then rotating showing that it was the bottom deck of the saucer as it pulled back to reveal the ship in the 'upright' position. If that's the case, then it's like Deck 15 or something.

Unless I'm completely daft and I'm NOT remembering the scene right. Memory is one of the first things to go.

It's the camera that flips over - the shot ends with the Enterpise upside down. The bridge is on top of the saucer, on the lowest level of the dome structure.

There are a few levels above - you can see windows on a level above in the aforementioned shot, and you also see a crewman climb up a ladder in the corridor network behind the bridge when Spock gives up command to Kirk.

In the first "under construction" teaser, you see an unfinished part of the dome - there seem to be at least two decks above.

Okay, I'm trippin' - you're absolutely right. I just called up the scene in question on my wife's desktop, and that's exactly what happens.

I still wonder what they have directly above the bridge then. Perhaps a huge cooling system for all the computers?

Thanks for the input!

I also thought about the possibility of an observation deck of some kind, similar to the one that was featured in the final ep of the original BSG.

They used the rotating pull out shot with the Kelvin opening sequence that was in the trailer. What you saw was a saucer section with a glowing dome and a dorsal pylon getting blown to hell. Which made people think it could be the Enterprise getting blown up. The Enterprise bridge pull out shot does more than anything else to show that the nuEnterprise is about the same size as the classic one.
As for what's now above the bridge. It could be the Captain's new ready room with a big jacuzzi were he and his guests can look out into space through the big dome skylight while he sings "Rocketman".

In that shot it looked to me that the bridge room itself took up little more than the bump at the forward rim at the base of the dome, with plenty of room for the corridor network behind .

Kirk took a cue from his hero Zapp Brannigan and turned it into the Lovenasium.

Just watched "GI Joe" tonight from Netflix since I never saw it in release. I wouldn't pay a nickel for that movie. It had the STXI trailer I was talking about on it. They wanted people to think that it was the Enterprise being blown to hell with the upside down shot of the Kelvin. The only shots of the new E are from a distance, and you can't tell that the Kelvin is a different ship. There are two upside down shots: One from the front and one from the side.
On a related note they could use a set from "GI Joe" for the new engine room. It's where Snake-eyes and the evil ninja dude in white have their final fight. Looks like a big warpcore to me.
Oh and "There are four lights (lens-flare generators)" Sorry

You ALL have it so wrong. Remember those big tanks in the brewery? Yeah that's right... lens flare generators... and plenty of 'em!:techman:

That makes sense. My understanding is the lens flare generators were originally intended to double as the primary weapon system but no one could find a phaser emitter able to turn that much energy into a coherent beam. ;)
