Question about Vulcan's Defenses (Spoilers)

I never thought about this. But it seemed to me that maybe Vulcan didn't have many defenses-- remember how Spock seemed surprised at the 24th century Vulcan vessel he used to attack Nero with? Maybe that was a hint there isn't much defenses in this universe.

Hmm so is this universe supposed to be more peaceful then the "Prime" one? It did not seem to be more peaceful to me. I mean it could not have been that peaceful of a place when the main Starfleet fleet of ships were off in a major battle in the Laurentian System and they needed cadets to defend the apparently unguarded Vulcan home world from Nero.

I never really thought that Federation planets have that many defenses outside of their perimeter defenses.

I mean, the Borg just bulldozed through Sol and the only resistance was those little fighters which got one shotted. I'm sure the same thing happened with the Narada. Starfleet is the main defense force. Even in the Dominion War, Betazed didn't have great defenses and was reliant on Starfleet, though Earth did have defenses.
