Question about the Earth-Romulan War

Had ENT gone on for a full seven seasons, and had Paramount lifted its 'ban' on the Earth-Romulan War,

I was unaware Paramount had any kind of "ban" regarding the Romulan War. Do tell.

I've seen a whole bunch of people lately talking about how they didn't want Star Trek: Enterprise touching it because there was ever-so-slight chance they'd be making a feature film on it.

Oh yes, the much fabled Star Trek: The Beginning. That would have been a truly horrible film.

Paramount thought that Nemesis' failure was due to the Romulans being lousy enemies, so they ordered the guys making ENT to not use them much.

Which is laughable becuase the Romulans actually had a really minor role in Nemesis.

TPTB might have had a point there. Really, did you consider Shinzon, Nero or Sela to be particular interesting people?

The majority of lead Romulans haven't been "good" enemies since TOS.

:)

I liked Shinzon and Nero well enough (never cared for Sela; she just felt like the biggest bad fanfic character ever to me somehow) but I would agree that none of them were terrific.

Romulans have kind of always been at their best for me when their most familiar faces are only seen for a few episodes here and there on TNG or DS9 and don't threaten worlds but for their silver tongues.

OTOH, Khan never meets Kirk. There's something to be said about "detaching" your villains... Makes them more mysterious, more menacing, more like a force of nature.

If you're just talking about TWOK, then yeah, all of Kirk's conversations with Khan are done over the viewscreen.

Of course, Kirk and Khan had plenty of face to face interation in Space Seed.
