question about rewatching episodes

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Before putting an episode you've seen on.. what is it about that episode that you are thinking before it plays? Is it an image? I line of dialogue? A scene? an effect?

So for this thread tell your favorite episodes and one thing about that show that you think of just as you put it in.

For me, Tacking Against the
Wind I think the scene between Sisko and Gowron. Two badass actors acting badass as possible

I try to remind myself what an episode's general concept is, but that's about it. I prefer to keep my mind clear and just enjoy the ride the episode is taking me on.

For most episodes I think about some of the really cool scenes in them. Like for We'll Always Have Paris, I love the ending watching the three Data's in the different phases. Plus the scene where Picard, Riker and Data are walking toward the turbolift and they encounter themselves in the same turbolift! I loved that part when I first saw it.

I like the Nth degree (my favorite TNG episode) when Barclay creates the subspace wormhole type thing. It was cool watching the Enterprise-D stretch and slip into the field.

The early time travel episode where Picard encounters the future Picard...I loved that space vortex thing that is engulfing the Enterpise. I always loved that scene because it was just such a cool visual to see the Ent getting pulled into the vortex.

I liked watching the Enterprise blow up numerous times in Cause and Effect. It was such a cool episode that I didn't mind the reset button thing. It was a great story.

I always looked forward to the huge space battles in DS9. I loved the scene in Way of the Warrior, where Gowron and a fleet of Klingons approached DS9. Gorwon said "Sisko you're a punk! Me and da boys are gonna kick your ass!" Sisko was like "Bring it bee-yotch!" Man, that was cool!

In Voyager, my favorite episode was Nemesis. I loved at the end when Chakotay had to leave the transporter room when he saw the alien ambassador. Then Janeway comes up to him and is like WTF?!?!? Then Chakotay says "I wish it were as easy to stop hating as it was to start." I have quoted that to my thuggish friends many times.

Scorpion had alot of cool visuals in it as well. I recently wrote a thread about them in the Voy forum.

I guess I like the visuals the most. Seeing the Enterprise-D in space, traveling around, encountering cool stuff is what fueled my imagination for a long time.

A cool scene maybe an action scene or some drmatic scene between two or more characters or a line of dialog from an episode will just pop into my mind and I'll decide to watch it based on that.

I tend to just go over what I remember of the episode in my head.

It's really about time for me.

For instance, I was under the gun to write a movie review on Saturday. Instead of having a broadcast station on, I put "Encounter at Farpoint" in. Since I've seen it a half million times, I didn't feel the need to watch everything. So I had something playing in the background and got the review done.

Usually I just think "Yeah, I liked that ep."

But sometimes it's for a particular scene or storyline. I can't say as I have a firm reason.

Scenes I think about before watching some of my favorite episodes:

In The Pale Moonlight:
Two, actually - the very end when Sisko decides he can 'live with it' and erases the personal log...and the moment when Sisko enters Garak's shop and slugs him so hard it sends Garak flying.

Improbable Cause/The Die is Cast:
The scene where Odo exposes Garak and accuses him of blowing up his own shop.

Also, I love it when the Defiant blows up that one ship at close range and flies through the debris.

And finally, for some reason I love that scene when Odo is picking out the perfumes from the 'perfume dealer'.

Favor the Bold/Sacrifice of Angels:
"There's an old saying....fortune favors the bold. Well...I guess we're about to find out." I LOVE that line!

Of course, I also love "Well, time to start packing!"

And you really can't avoid thinking about when Ziyal was killed.

The Siege of AR-558:
The scene where Quark turns around and shoots the Jem'Hadar soldier.

Also, the hand-to-hand combat scene is pretty grim, but memorable.

What You Leave Behind:
Several bits...but the main ones I think about are the blood wine on Cardassia scene...and the closing montage of the show.

And I do like the goodbye to Kassidy as well.

Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang:
The promenade walk is cool. :D

Oh yes, definitely. The speeches in "The Measure of a Man." Spock smiling in "This Side of Paradise." Sisko brooding in "In the Pale Moonlight."

^ You were PKTrekGirl? I always loved that scenename. I was on a big Farscape high at the time I first came to this website. And when I saw a post with that scenename I thought it was pretty cool!

EDIT--Oops too slow on my part, should be above Kegek's post

Some of my faves and the corresponding scenes I think of (note that some of these are weird and not iconic at all):

The post-fight line-up including Bashir and O'Brien in "Trials and Tribble-ations"

Sisko and Garak in the corridor before the Romulan ship decloaks on the pad in "In The Pale Moonlight"

Marritza raving in "Duet".

Sisko and Jake at the very end of "The Visitor".

Balok puppet from "The Corbomite Maneuver"

Trip dying in "The Pegasus" ;)

I don't know why some of those images stick with me more than some of the more famous scenes from those (and other) episodes, just kinda what pops into my brain.

I usually go through the series in order, unless I'm putting together a themed marathon.... stories all about one alien race, character or a story arc. So it's all about remembering what I watched last time. If I disliked an episode the first time around, I'm usually open to giving it second chance. Some Voyager and Enterprise episodes come as a surprise given their reputation in fan-circles...

a particular scene or moment with a certain character. actuelly whether or not i like that moment even if it only lasts a few seconds will determine wether or not i rewatch the episode at that particular time. (picky aren't I?)
