Question about Mere Anarchy

I know that this is a collection of six stories that were published online and cover about a 30 year span in the TOS universe, but I'm curious to know that the connecting thread is. In other words, what is the overall story about?

I love the cover and I'm looking forward to reading this in March.

I think it has something that to do with a planet the Enterprise visits several times over the 30 years covered in the stories.

^ The story's more linear that that of Debt of Honor, but the general notion of doing a single story that encompassed all the "eras" of TOS was in part inspired by DoH's example.

But in any case, Mere Anarchy's through-line is the planet Mestiko, which is in danger from a rogue pulsar in the first story (Things Fall Apart by the Wardilmore Gestalt Entity), and which Our Heroes find cause to revisit periodically over the next three decades. The last part (Its Hour Come Round by Margaret Wander Bonanno) takes place shortly after Kirk's apparent demise on the Enterprise-B.

I really can't wait to read that one; it's hard to find inventive TOS concepts, I think, and that seems like a fun one. If we already know where each character ends up, at least we can highlight what a long and varied journey it is.

As for why I didn't read the ebooks, I have a Kindle now, but when the trade is so much cheaper and coming out so soon...

They were quite enjoyable stories! I also smiled when I read about a Payav Federation officer in Slings and Arrows.

My biggest complaint would be that the Payav population did not seem to be as diverse as it was first advertised. I recall hearing that the Payav would be just as varied in cultures as Earth. However, too many stories relied on groups that seemed to fall into the all too cliche organizations of irrational religious extremists and the clear-minded scientists who always had the right answer.
