Question about Kelvin Turbolift

Ok, loved the movie, seen it twice and still gonna go again to see it in IMAX, but let's get down to the nitty gritty tech details.

Captain Robau takes a turbolift ride from the bridge to somewhere near the shuttle bay (located above the saucer) His exit from the lift seems to imply that he's travelled down a deck or two at some point, then walks, up a short flight of stairs, then launches a shuttle out of the upper shuttle bay.

Has anyone begun speculating deck plans or turbolift routes that would require downward travel to an upper deck? Does the lift go all the way to the top of the pod, then over then down to the shuttle bay? Or could this be the best route available with possible damage to the turbolift system.

Not really picking nits, just curious. Obviously it's easier to show the lift coming down through that large space, but was this production design decision made with the ship's layout in mind?

Welcome any definitive answers or further speculation.

Hey, no nitpicking - Robau can go wherever the hell he wants.

Maybe that's a turbolift that only he can take, to contain the badassness.

Or, he has to take a shuttlecraft from Hell, since that's the only place that seems remotely challenging enough to him.

Seriously, it wasn't until I read a couple mentions of the turbolift's direction on here that I even thought about that.

The other one is Spock on the Enterprise: he's coming from the shuttlebay, gets into the turbolift and not even one second later gets out onto the bridge.

Seemed too fast a trip.

Another odd thing I noticed is that when Kirk, Mcoy and Uhura are running in the corridor to get to the bridge to warn Pike that we see them run in the corridor turn in what looked like turbolift doors but on the other side was the bridge they entered. So this implies that there were running in corridor on the same level as the bridge? So based on that i guess there are corridors on deck one not just the bridge and some other rooms.

Yeah it seems that on the left side, the bridge exits into corridors. On the right side, there's a turbolift.

Do not try to presume to understand Captain Robau's actions! Understanding is not required, only obedience.

With all those engineering and conduit pipes, perhaps the turbolift causeways had to be routed around those things, thus having to traverse across the saucer, up into the secondary hall, across the secondary hall, and back down to where Robau exited.

I noticed the same exact thing. I think it was just a continuity mistake.

Or just done for the sake of a good camera shot.

The bridge is recessed lower in the dome, at the bottom rather than the very top. There's a pullback shot that shows the bridge from the exterior window, showcasing its location. Being at the bottom of the dome, where it connects to the rest of the saucer, leaves plenty of room for a corridor around it.

First and foremost, allow me to bow humbly to the badass turboliftridingese of the Robau.

Second, it was a cool shot! And I'll allow any of my workarounds to explain it perfectly.

As for Spock to the bridge, that too is an awesome shot. We're hundreds of years in the future with warp drive and matter/energy transportation; the elevator had damn well better be faster too :)

My thought on first seeing Spock in the turbolift was that he was having a moment of reflection and possibly realizing that he had seen Kirk ducking out of the way. But I guess he was just tilting his head slightly during the ride...
