Question about AT&T's Data Plan

Hi All,

My colleagues all have iPhones, and they use a joint company data plan, which, I believe is specific to iPhones (at least it's called "iPhone Data Plan"). I'm thinking about getting an HTC Desire, but before I do, I need to know if my company will have to setup an additional data plan for my phone, or if I'll be able to use the existing shared plan without a problem?

Does anybody know how this works with AT&T?

iPhone data plan is NOT the same data plan as regular smart phones, with AT&T, as explained by the AT&T rep at the local AT&T store.

Even though they are the exact same price, and everything.

Are you planning on using the Europe version of the Desire? Because you'll only get 2G speeds on AT&T with it. There's a NA 3G version rumored to be coming to AT&T, but as far as I know there's no official release date or anything.

I was considering the NA 3G version, although given that I can't hop onto my company's existing data share with it, I'll probably just get the new iPhone when it comes out next month.

I worked at AT&T for 3 long years. I can assure you that the plan you have will probably work on your planned android phone. Used to not be the case, but with the added mms feature all the codes are pretty much identical, though the iPhone plan includes visual voicemail, which is nice.

I can also tell you there is no group data plan. Each data feature is activated per line, though your employer may get a bulk discount.

Thanks for the reply, and the reassurance. I'll be sure to look into it more. If the company is going to have to pony up for my data plan anyway, then I might as well get the phone I want.
