Quentin Tarantino Talks His Casino Royale

I can't stand the majority of Tarantino's work and never could. The only movie I even remotely like of his is Reservoir Dogs. I think he would've been a shit choice for Bond, though I would've loved to see Brosnan go out on a higher note than Die Another Day, but not with QT directing...

If Jackie Brown is an example of Tarantino at his worst, he's doing OK. Besides Casino Royale didn't really come off as a brisk action movie as filmed anyway.

A Tarantino Bond could have been great, and then again, perhaps not. I would have liked Pierce to be the superspy one last time but honestly I was so satisfied with Casino Royale (easily my favourite Bond movie now) that I'm just as happy it never came to pass.

Besides, that might have delayed Inglorious Basterds or something, and however well intentioned I can't imagine a Tarantino Bond film being as entertaining a foray into pulp as that movie.

And since when did a three hour movie that mostly consists of people talking become a disparaging remark?
I'm assuming this would be from people who really, really hate Ingmar Bergman. Or haven't seen Ingmar Bergman films.

One of Tarantino's strengths is dialogue, and one can't blame him for playing to his strengths. When it works, the result can be a very entertaining film.

To be honest the only problem I have with CR, aside from lousy Bond girl casting, was the length and editing...and Tarantino would have probably made it worse! The guy simply cannot edit his films--well can't or won't.

As well you have to wonder if a Tarantino Bond would have possibly be a 12A! It seems unlikely!

That said I did like the idea of Casino Royale with Brosnan, I think it could have worked with a Bond at the end of his career as well, if not better, than a Bond at the start of his career, with Vesper's death leading to him resigning.

Cue final scene with M phoning someone up with the words. "We need a new 007."
