Quentin Tarantino has an idea for a ST film (kind of)

I'll take this with a grain of salt but Movieweb is reporting that the QT Trek film would not feature Pine, Quinto or any of the other Kelvin actors but be another reboot or take place in a AU, and that Paramount is allowing the Kelvin actors contracts to expire before any new film goes into production.

Bringing in JJ was purely a bean-counter move. That guy is like the Dave Grohl of movies in the way his finger is in everybody's sandbox and I'm deathly tired of him and wish he had no role in the "writer's room" being set up. Nevertheless, the fact Tarantino is the least likely person to work on Trek and they're handing him the keys to take it out for a spin gives me some faith that Hollywood is willing to take a risk.

Didn't they make new contracts before beyond was made?

And I don't think they'd need to wait for the contracts to expire before making a trek movie not related to these characters.

if that's the case I really hope they don't recast Kirk Spock etc again....unless..unless (omg I just had the coolest idea in the world) QT is planning to bring back TOS cast via CG!! (either TOS era or Movie era):D

QT is a TOS guy from what I've read, so feeling it would be Kirk, Spock, etc. In his movie.

Will be interesting to see who winds up being cast or if Pine Quinto crew reprise their roles
Also the aesthetics he choses - from costumes, to ship interiors, etc.

it's doable (see Peter Cushing in Rogue One). I wonder if they would do it for Trek? Maybe that's where franchises are going?!

I do not know why people are worried
Tarantino probably shows violence and sex, and what does it matter? Did not we see violence on disco? We did not see an officer of the federation being raped by an alien?
I like disco, I have no problem that Tarantino does something similar

Sex and violence have been part of STAR TREK since "The Cage."

1984 Arnold in TGenisys worked, as did 80s Kurt Russell in GOTG2

Also Douglas in Ant-man. But in addition to those all being small flashbacks they also all had the benefit of living actors as a base (which wouldn't be the case for Scotty, McCoy or Spock). Cushing's results make it pretty clear the technology isn't as fully developed yet as some wantit to be. Certainly not enough to carry an entire cast through an entire movie with several actors missing.

Yes the whole movie would be out of the question.. but maybe a scene could work :
maybe they could take a leaf from MCUs book - an opening flashback (or in this case alt-universe flashforward) of a CG deaged 80s Shatner (as opposed to using Shatner in his 80s). maybe it could be done for the whole TOS crew- an opening sequence set at some point in the Trek II-VI era (or shortly after) with them in the maroon uniforms on the NCC1701A - like a mini Star Trek 'VII' with Shatner, Koenig, Takei, Nichols reprising their roles with those CG mocap things but other actors portraying Spock, Bones, Scotty- CG Rogue One style. In that way the Trek V photo at the end of Beyond would be like a foreshadow to the next movie. How would it fit in the following movie though? Would have to be some interdimentonal/timetravel plot (like what they are intending for 4)

I hope that's true. That way the Kelvin Timeline will remain untainted by Quentin Tarantino and I can summarily ignore his film.

Times change.

Not always for the better.

Yes, but in a different direction: things that were considered too violent in the past is seen as mild years later.
There was a time when humanity watched people try to kill each for sport. Or dog fighting, cock fighting and things like that. Entertainment could be considered less violent in human history.

Humanity has continued to do that, but on a wider scale. Think two world wars and sixty years of a "cold" war that left tens of millions dead. These don't include deaths due to purges, famine, and revolutions, not to mention a future involving global collapse due to global warming, debt, limits to growth, and arms production and deployment on an unprecedented scale.

Not surprisingly, entertainment has followed suit across the board.
