Star Trek and Quentin Tarantino; two great tastes that taste great together or crossing the streams?
I've never seen a Quentin Tarantino film, so I couldn't say. Then again, I've avoided his films for a particular reason, so probably crossing the streams.
So, you’ve never seen one of his films but you can make a judgment on the idea? I’m not certain that’s fair. I mean, his films are an acquired taste, to be sure, but what they lack in couthness, they make up for in creativity. It could be the worst idea ever. It could also be absolutely brilliant.
Quentin Tarantino's films have a reputation for gore and graphic violence (often to an extreme), which is why I've avoided them. So, yes, I can make a judgement. I mean, it's possible that it will turn out otherwise, but it's unlikely.
Like I said — acquired taste. A QT film is a beast all of its own and I know that can be offputting. I won’t deny that for a second. His last film, The Hateful Eight, I had some issues with in regards to some of the violence going too far. And while the majority of his films do have graphic violence, he has also directed episodes of ER and CSI which kept away from such things. He has also expressed an interest in writing a James Bond film, which typically do not have violence to the extent a QT film and which are very much guarded in the formula they’re made in — like Trek. Also, to add to this, if (and it’s still a big if) this happens, he has commitments to another film at the moment and will likely not direct it. ALSO, Paramount will not allow QT to gore up the Crown Jewels of the studio. There are a lot of factors to consider outside of the reputation of QT’s films.
No, just incredibly smart for bringing in a world class director to take charge of a franchise that lost some momentum after the last couple of films...This is exactly the bold type of move the series needs.

Considering CBS has let people "gore up" Discovery to the point where I had to stop watching it, I doubt that.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I, for one, don’t think that Disco is that bad gore and violence wise. But to each his own.

There's more to Tarantino films than "gore". If we could get a Trek film that features a scene as intense as the tavern sequence in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS then it would be worth it. That tavern sequence had more excitement for me than anything in the new films, and it was just characters talking and reading each other's true intentions.
Yeah, I wouldn't even regard it as more gory or violent than some stuff we've seen previously in Trek.
Besides, even if this does eventuate (which I very much doubt), I hardly think it's going to turn into some sort of ultra-violent gorefest. He'd be doing it out of love for the series, not wanting to completely turn it on its head.
I think someone read the OP's link and came up with a bullshit news story to get clicks. The rest of the internet has predictably followed.
