Heck no to Cage or Cruise please
I'm genuinely curious about what makes some of you think that he'd be great for this trek.
I honestly think he'd be such a crazy choice and so unfitting. I dunno, but his style and the stuff he likes and his kind of skills....I have no idea how he would make sense as a director of this trek. I have no idea how he would even like directing trek!
I lamented that Lin, compared to jj, seems to have infused the last movie with less "heart" and depth... Quarantino would be even worse for me. Besides, his comment and "ideas" don't sound promising and he frankly doesn't seem to understand the point of this trek.
As for the appeal of his name..I dunno. If Lin got people joking about "fast and furious in space", Tarantino would have people joking about "Kill Trek". Don't make it too easy for reboot haters now, lol.
He's a big name but not everyone is a fan, and even the fans might not see him as a fitting choice.
For me this reboot, if there is even another movie, desperately, I mean DESPERATELY, needs someone who loves the reboot already and is very very very inspired to do more with it and the characters. If it's an unknown name it doesn't matter.
The least thing they need is hiring a big name director with ego who just wants to do his thing and might change everything by doing so, thus further driving away the existing fans of this trek.
I think it could be the shot in the arm the franchise needs, let's face it, it's thin on the ground with ideas, it needs a new direction instead of just plowing the generic blockbuster route.
Yeah but his ideas are nothing "new"? he's just proposing adaptations of tos episodes and criticizing stid for not being the same thing twok was, lol. He said he likes that Kirk plays Shatner and Quinto plays Nimoy....like I'm not sure I even get what he's talking about. I could pass on him not getting that the reboot uses a different time travel device than tos (though this is a foundamental detail because if you don't even get the "science" behind this trek and how it was literally created, you are doomed imo) but he seems to essentially believe this trek is an adaptation of tos with better special effects. Was him sleeping during very important moments of the narrative of the the first movie that he claims to like?
Stid and beyond alienated reboot fans, so to speak, because of the nostalgia. .. in light of his comments, what would even make anyone believe he wouldn't further sink this ship into nostalgia and completely lose track of what made the first movie so great to many? Thus, fail even worse than beyond. I dunno, it seems suicide at this point and like paramount&Co would really be clueless and wouldn't know what they are doing..
For me the only new direction this trek needs is someone who gets back to what people loved so much about the first movie and finally delivers a coherent continuation. A different style, as long it's fitting for this franchise, is welcomed and so are new ideas but it gotta still be an integral part of this trek that makes sense with the rest.
If they have to completely alter this trek, more than beyond already -almost did - (and with not so great results), what's even the point. Just recast and make a completely new remake.
Next Woody Allen fans will want him to direct trek too ^
I'd watch it in a heartbeat if they remade The Cage starring Nicholas Cage as a Talosian, and then call it Star Trek Cruise Control.
Paramount may as well as the film franchise needs a big shot in the arm now and a huge name A list director would do the trick.
I hear Colin Trevorrow is free.
Tarantino would surely deliver the 500 million plus movie that the film franchise so desperately needs. Non trek fans who are QT fans would go and see it. Even Lin couldn't guarantee that.
and jj still made a better star trek film than a star wars filmWell, JJ was better suited to Star Wars than Star Trek, for all we know Colin is better for Star Trek than Star Wars.
The lack of an animated series is CBS' fault, not Paramount's. Paramount only have the legal right to produce Star Trek movies.not making a cartoon for the kelvin timeline, no novels...I can go on
yes then it would not only be Trek '4' ('meh' from general audience esp after STB/'guess will have to see it' from fans) but the 10th? 11th? film from QT ('oh wow better check this out' from general audience/'OMG!OMG! better not die b4 this comes out!' from fans)I saw plenty of eye rolling at 'director of fast5 and fast and the furious 6' on the beyond trailers.
'Directed by Quentin Tarantino'
Now that would get people interested without question. Isn't that exactly what we need?
