Quentin Tarantino has an idea for a ST film (kind of)

"Yesterday's Enterprise" is what Star Trek Generations should've been. Unlikely to ever happen, but I'd take that story and make it about the JJ Abrams crew encountering the 2001-05 Enterprise cast thrown forward from the [still to be depicted] Romulan War. Retcon the creation of this alternate timeline to an earlier point in the 2150s, with two possible ways Archer's NX-01 might've met its fate. Surviving to be in a museum and faulty holodeck recreation of "These are the Voyages...." for the Prime Universe or something more disastrous to Federation history in the Kelvin universe.
if they did ever do YE with the JJcrew I doubt theyd choose to have them pair up with the ENT crew over TNG

True... and likely not TNG either at this point. Preferring a U.S.S. Kelvin crew with Chris Hemsworth as skipper, because there's clear personal stakes for one of the two main film characters.

Either that or cast a big bankable name as Robert April, and invent a hitherto unheard of U.S.S. Enterprise, which came before Pike and Kirk's. Please God... anybody but Tom Cruise.

Nicholas Cage?

Crowe would probably do Trek now

This is a great idea.

All Star Trek is deeply nostalgic, now. It's fifty years old, an expensive money-generating franchise owned by a corporation, and offers no innovative potential for the future of popular entertainment.

Yup. I don't think we'll ever really get another Trek that isn't a riff of something that already happened because there's nobody in charge pushing for big things like Roddenberry, Bennett, Piller or Behr. DISCOVERY having a different crew dynamic in the cast is neat twist, I'll give it that, but everything surrounding it seems to be a 'MEMBA THIS??? kind of a deal much like nuTrek. I mean, we're getting a Harry Mudd appearance, a character who's only feeble novelty in TOS was being the only non-Starfleet guest star that appeared more than once. YAWN.

If it's done well enough to make it interesting again, then it's a winner. Still, would like something new and bold. No Klingons, no Borg, no nostalgia.

One problem with using the Guardian is, you would also have Harlan Ellison and his lawyer threatening to sue for using it (and I'm surprised Ellison hasn't started proceedings now for Tarantino even mentioning it in an interview!)

Could always get Ellison on board. He was willing to work with Abrams on a Trek film. He also allowed Peter David to use the Guardian in Trek books.

how about Yesterdays Enterprise adapted to include the Guardian. Ellison writes it with QT. QT directs

Yeah, Harlan's fine as long as someone asks permission and he's appropriately credited. He only gets prickly when people presume to use his stuff without asking (and without offering due compensation.)

Tarantino told TMZ TODAY 9/22/17 that he would be interested in directing a Star Trek film...If the head of Paramount pictures isn’t on the phone with QT this very second he/she should not have a job tomorrow.

Tarantino would bring such a buzz to a new Star Trek film it would be sure to be a major hit and give the series back some of the momentum it lost after the long wait between ST 09 and Into Darkness and the poor marketing of Beyond....Star Trek needs to be an event and a ST film directed by QT would surely be a major event...Get it done Paramount!!!

If Tarantino can bring tense moments like the tavern scene from INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS into a Star Trek film, then it would totally be worth it. I don't care if it doesn't reach a broad audience, I just want a good Trek film because I'm selfish like that.

Totally agree with this. It would be a left field, unexpected choice for director, and would create a buzz that only a few other directors this side of James Cameron would be able to make. Bring it on I say. It won't happen though.
