Quatemass And The Pit

And?? How does this make the mcguffin sound any less silly?

Well, this is a movie I haven't seen so I'd have to watch it in its full context to have an answer to that.

But to religious people, Relics are a very serious business. And any part of Jesus would be the ultimate relic. So it really doesn't sound all that silly to me.

It's silly because of the part involved.

I've never seen any of the films or the 2005 remake, only the Quatermass and the Pit 1957 (?) serial and the two surviving episodes of the 1953 original Quatermass story.

I've seen ALL the versions, the BBC versions, the 50s movies, the 1968 movie, the 2005 live tv movie. I still have a soft spot for the 68 Pit movie over the original.

I have not seen the 2005 remake yet...didn't know there was one.

The 1968 version is the one I have on DVD. But every book or place on line says the original theatrical release is about 98 minuets long. But the version I have is 3 hours long!!!

I can only think that it must be the 1958 TV version. Is it in B&W or colour?

If it's three hours it's the 1958 TV version - it was originally released to home video in a slightly edited compilation version running 181 minutes.

And in reference to the 2005 remake, that's of the first story, The Quatermass Experiment, and originally aired live.

It is in color. I have only watched a little of it and so far it is as I remember watching the theatrical version.

the DVD box says this is 180 minute compilation version.

Unless this is a colourised version of the 1958 series Lonemagpie mentioned, I'm stumped. As far as I'm aware, Hammer did not cut 83 minutes of footage, which someone else has restored.

Who is playing Quatermass - John Mills, Andrew Keir, André Morell, Reginald Tate, John Robinson, Brian Donlevy, or Jason Flemyng? Of these, only Brian Donlevy played Quatermass more than once in the movies The Quatermass Xperiment and Quatermass 2.

I am stumped too. I have to sit and watch the whole thing which I have not done yet. In this version Quartermass is played by Andrew Keir .

Perhaps your version of the TV serial was colourised at some stage. I have the individual episodes on DVD in B&W as originally aired. I haven't seen the version where the episodes were edited together.

I will have to watch the entire 3 hours to see what I have.

Here is a link to the DVD I purchased.

EDIT: From the reviews I am reading that this version is only about 98 minutes despite what the cover says. I think you're getting the theatrical version in a box that is actually for the TV series?

And a shitty bootleg at that - the official release at least spells the title character right: Quatermass.

The cast names on the cover don't match the pictures (TV and movie versions respectively) - and who the hell is "Quartermass"?

It may be a bootleg...I am not sure...but the quality of the picture on the screen is excellent. But I do think this is the theatrical version and the company making this is placing it in the wrong DVD box.
