QFT

I'm all for agreeing, but you should at least try to add your own little something to a post. "QFT" doesn't really serve a purpose, and I certainly don't think it keeps conversations going.

Yeah, I've used +1 or +100, but it always comes before a long post full of my own thoughts.

I think all of these things are ok if they're the first word in a long post. It's when they're 50% or 100% of the post that it gets annoying.

Ok, everyone's missing the biggest problem here.

QFT doesn't make any $#%@ sense the way people use it!

Let's say that I says "This movie is great!" and then someone else just posts "QFT!"

Ok, what? Who quoted what? You didn't quote me, since all you said was "QFT." So are you saying that I'm the one that quoted something? But wait...that was an original thought! I didn't quote anyone, you jack@$$, I came up with that!

Is it an insult? Someone trying to tell me that I must have stolen my post from someone else? I don't get it.
It means someone agrees with you and can't think of a better way to put it themselves. You really get mad about that? :wtf:

I think some of you need to get off of the internet if you can't put up with stuff like this. Or go to SomethingAwful and hang out. :shifty:

Well, car, when someone says "QFT" but doesn't actually quote anything, assume what I did when I first came across said acronym, and assume it stands for "Quite F**king True".

Not good Anglais, but brief, accurate, and to the point. :D

You can't build a meaningful and deep conversation from emoticons alone, but there are times when they move the topic along, which can be effective enough considering the nature of the topic.

Just a thought.

J.

In that case, they operate similar to their intended function, filling in for the non-verbal cues that happen in a real-time face-to-face conversation. Think about it, sometimes you have something to add to the conversation and sometimes all you have to add is a nod, a head shake, a shoulder shrug, etc.

Similarly, "QFT" is similar to saying, "I agree," following someone's comment in an actual face-to-face conversation. The only difference is that we don't get a "post count" for those conversations, though in those situations, the conversation usually dies, unless the original speaker or someone else in the conversation adds more depth to the topic.

EPISCHE FHEIL!!!

Nothing beats a good Godwin'd bomb!

Really, is that all you have to contribute to a thread? QFT? How about STFU?

Okay...I'm done. :)

I've read, though I've never seen it used this way myself, that QFT didn't used to be used just to say "Yay! I agree!" It was in fact done to keep the original poster honest. Example: On another board I frequent, one of the more petulant and excitable regulars used to regularly get in a tizzy and post these outrageous, bigoted remarks (you know, "All poor people are lazy" and "Fat people shouldn't get food stamps" - stuff like that), and when someone called him on one of them, he'd go back and change his original post so that it wasn't nearly as offensive, and then he'd say, "I didn't say that. I don't know what you mean."

Yeah. Sadly, none of the rest of us knew where he lived so we couldn't go there and give him a smack.

So anyway, QFT, or so I've read, was originally done so that the content of the post you were reacting to was contained within your post, thereby preventing the original poster from changing it.

As I said, I've never seen QFT used this way, but had I known about it when I knew Mr. IDon'tKnowWhatYouMean, I would have used it that way myself. Jerk. Cowardly jerk.
