Huron Class Tender
Class Name: Huron
Designation: Tender
Crew: 65
Era: 23rd Century
Overview:
Constructed for the express purpose of servicing outposts, sensory and communications bouys, and other Starfleet vessels, the Huron Class Tender is a workhorse ship, it's uniquely shaped hull holds machine and fabrication shops extensive cargo stores of materials and parts, and a very large shuttlebay that sits almost directly under the bridge and impulse unit deck, this massive shuttle bay has entrances at the bow and towards the aft between the twin hulls. The Huron has workbee docks as well and is studded with tractor beam emplacements, larger componants can be fabricated in place or maneuvered between the aft hull by workbees or by tractor beams for repairs.
Cargo access doors are located on the dorsal part of the after hull and on the port and starboard sides.
The underslung nacelles requires lengthy plasma conduits to feed the warp coils in the nacelles, this is not seen as such a problem as the conduits also provide power to the rest of the vessel when undertaking it's mission, and two extra fusion reactors are on board beyond that needed for the impulse system.
The Huron is not a class of combat vessels, and as such are armed only with phaser emplacements.
Named for various large lakes, the ships of the Huron Class are often seen crewed by Starfleet Engineers, and although their quarters are spartan at best, the crews assigned to these spacegoing repair shops know that they serve a vital function to the Federation.
The example depicted is the USS Salt Lake
