Federation Kumari Class Frigate:
Overview:
An Andorian design, the Kumari Class design lineage dates back over two centuries to an older Andorian vessel of the same name, the modern namesake was constructed to supplement the Defiant Class in fleet escort and combat duties.
The Kumari is a Frigate class vessel, albeit on the lightest end of that particular weight scale whose main offensive punch is through the seven torpedo launchers that the frigate carries, three are mounted on the dorsal saucer just above and aft of the bow-mounted deflector dish - firing forward. An additional two torpedo launchers - also firing forward - are mounted on the ventral side of the saucer. Lastly, two torpedo launchers fire aft between the warp nacelles. The Kumari is also armed with six stardard collimation phaser strips. The torpedo launchers of the ship are multipurpose, and can fire a number of different torpedo types, including standard, quantum, probes, and sensor ghosting decoy casings.
In Andorian fashion, the two warp nacelles of the Kumari are arranged in an over/under configuration, with the two impulse drives located on the angular wings that extend from the hull area near the warp nacelles. Large and powerful, the impulse systems make the Kumari very fast at impulse velocities and have the unique ability to reverse their direction of thrust, allowing the frigate to make an emergency reduction in velocity, though this strains the structural integrity fields when used.
Unlike the Defiant Class, the Kumari is not built for nose to nose combat, and so - while it's shielding is powerful for a ship of it's small size - it is not fitted with the expensive ablative armor carried by the Defiant Class. Instead Kumari combat tactics call for standoff attacks and hit and run tactics utilizing the destructive power of it's multiple torpedo launchers.
Kumari Class frigates carry a crew of 125.
