There is nothing in the world as loving, as sweet, as playful, as butt ugly cute as a Pug.

I'm glad you love your dog, and I'm sure he's adorable, but as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing in the world as loving, as sweet, as playful, and as beautifully cute as Flatcoat Retriever mix and a Large Munsterlander.;)

Glad you got a good pooch that makes you happy.

I must admit I'm not really a toy dog fan myself.

<-- You can guess my preference pretty easily.

Not to get all Kanye West on everyone as well, and I do appreciate the love people have for all things canine, but I feel that the black Labrador is the most wonderful thing in the whole world. :adore:

^Oh heaven's no. The best thing in the world is the Corgi! Someday I'm going to have a little Welsh Corgi of my own named Campbell. :adore:

^What about beagles? I love dogs the size of corgis and beagles and pugs, not too big for an apartment, not so small as to be confused with rodents.

There are a few exceptions. Beagles may be one, Jack Russells as long as they're not yappy. But corgis? Had a girlfriend once who had one, and...no. Sorry. Pugs? Good God, no. Ugly, annoying little things.

Give me a German Shepherd or a Lab any day.

Beagles and Cocker Spaniels are adorable. :bolian:
As a favour, I once had to take the Cocker Spaniel of a friend for a walk. She was quite an old dog, and had that dignified, mellow manner that some old dogs have. Lovely dog.

But that was in the house or on the leash. Once we got off the streets and onto the path through the woods she turned into a bounding, playful puppy-brained loony that ran around investigating everything and getting covered in mud.

Back at the house, the friend took one look at the mud covered dog standing there all dignified and proud and grinned. "Yeah, that's what she does..." I was told...

:D

Oh, those are darling. I wouldn't mind getting one. I love pugs too, but there's a certain Pomeranian who completely stole my heart.

I tend to prefer working dogs, they are bred to work with people and to me are easier to train. Retrievers, shepherds, pointers, spaniels, collies, etc.

I don't like toy dogs as they tend to have the smarts bred out of them. Plus they don't play the way I like to play - plodding through the woods and throwing sticks in a pond, or rough housing with them. I find them yappy and annoying.

I'm also not a fan of hunting dogs, by that I mean ones that actually kill the prey, not just retrieve it or flush it out. Terriers and hounds for example. Just seems to be a natural aggressive streak there.

Here's my beast.

Labs are good at being too hyper and getting chunky. They dig as well. No thanks.

Now what can beat a snuggly Pomeranian? :D

If I were to get a large dog someday though I'd get a Golden Retriever.

Ours doesn't dig, which is nice. The thing with a Lab, or other active breeds, is getting them enough exercise to rid them of that abundant energy. Ours gets 45-60 minutes most days and it calms him down substantially. If you have a more sedentary lifestyle though, I wouldn't recommend one.

The weight issue is tough. Despite all the exercise ours gets, it's still a struggle to keep his weight reasonable.

I've had my share of big dogs and know people with labs. Heck, my brother had a Lab/Irish Setter mix that was the most hyper, energetic dog in the world. She would play ball with us (we'd smack the baseball with the bat on the acreage) for hours. When I say "hours" I mean from around 5pm until dusk. She'd tear off after the ball and return it plus an occasional side trip to the horse tank to cool off real quick (she'd jump in and wallow) and bring the ball for more. By dark she'd be pretty tired but still want to play.

I'm not one for a bigger breed due to neck/back issues. If I have to make a trip to the vet, I can't load and injure/sick animal by myself. I would love to get a dog like a Havanese, but those little boogers are expensive

I have a rule about dogs. If you step on it once with one foot, and it dies, it isn't a dog. :p
I dare say there are very few breeds that you could STEP ON and not do irreparable damage. :( What a horrible thought.

I love my little peke to bits.

She was a rescue from a puppy mill. She is just as sweet, loving, quiet, and non-demanding as you could hope a dog to be. One 15-minute walk and a little indoor play and she's good to go. All she wants is your company and affection. :adore:
