PSN down thread

We will just have to wait and see what type of improved security Sony come back with on the PSN, but its quite scary to think a bunch of freeloaders with a lot of spare time can interfere with everybody experience.

A lot of these guys are not freeloader hackers with spare time. These guys are paid to attack computer networks. A lot of their finances come through 'shadow' links to China, North Korea, and what have you. Not all, certainly, but quite a bit.

I really do what them to stop or be caught, either will suffice.
I think they should take a tour of Gitmo, myself...

Can we throw rotten fruit and veg at them as well.:)

I'm guessing they'll largely be games that many people already have and have been out for awhile and can be had for $19.99, like Uncharted 2 for example. I'm guessing Uncharted 2, MGS 4, Modnation Racers, Little Big Planet, Killzone 2, Infamous, etc, anything that can be had as part of a bundle. There's no way they'll give some recently released games like Dragon Age 2, and they'll likely be exclusives.

One can dream though. Give us Uncharted 3! :D

i can see maybe the downloaded games for psp being little big planet etc.

Yeah, if these guys are/where part of Anon then they are losing the people's goodwill...
Maybe this will force Anon to become less Anonymous towards eachother, making sure nobody will go "rogue" like these guys might have gone...
Not saying they are/where part of Anon, just keeping the posibility open...

New update and not a good one...

Sony posted an update to its PlayStation blog Friday stating it was "unaware of the extent of the (network) attack" adding it needs to "conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system" before it can restart its network

This latest statement contradicts a comment made just the previous day by Sony CEO and Chairman Howard Stringer who said "in the coming days, we will restore service to the networks." Sony had also teased eager PSN gamers dropping hints that the PSN service would soon be restored, stating it had begun "the final stages of internal testing of the new system."

God knows when then :(

I have no issues with it still being down personally, i would rather the keep it offline and fix it completely than throw it up early and have intermittent or still vulnerable service.

They need better internal communication, it seems.

Just been on Gamespot and Sony has said PSN won't be back 100% until May 31st :wtf:. However they once again hinted at other stuff being restored earlier but nothing specific. You would assume the first thing they are bringing back would be online play and I hope PSN store doesn't take too long cause I was planning on buying a few things from next week ;)

Sony has got to take a hit in console sales and game sales over this...We have Socom recently released along with Flashpoint & Portal whom all have strong CO-OP natures to them. Also Brink is out soon and a new COD:BO map pack so Microsoft must be rubbing their hands with glee.

Another article stated Sony has loss around 2 billion (I assume in Yen) due to PSN outage mainly because of their stock prices taking a hammering.

Only thing I haven't like during this outage is that Netflix recently stopped working a couple of weeks ago, despite it was still working after the initial assault. There was a work around but it no longer works. I don't want to pay an additional subscription fee with XBL () just to watch Netflix in HD. So I'm stuck with the SD stereo version off of the Wii.

Netflix has been working fine for me. Just try to log in to PSN , when it fails, Netflix will continue as normal. I've been watching Macross all over again...

^ Tried that. It starts to buffer a video, and I'm prompted to login again. Apparently some PS3 owners have a different version depending on when you downloaded the app. Unfortunately, I have the latest that requires the PSN to verify whether you are using a hacked console or whatever. Oh well. :(

You know, I know some people feel Sony shouldn't have sued in the first place, but you can be sure that Sony has reasons now more than ever, just on the fact alone for the damages that were done to the company as a whole.

I think you're comparing apples and oranges here. Cracking the PS3 master key was useful for extending the system's functionality. It could be used for good or bad purposes, but I think people should have a fundamental right to alter software and hardware that they've purchased.

Breaking into Sony's network and stealing data? That's unequivocally "bad," no matter why someone did it. Sony should prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law.
