PS3 slim offical, price drop acorss the board to $299/Euro299/£250

Well you don't really need a remote, but lets look at the essentials you will need for each machine to do the same thing, play games.

PS3 120gig £250 and £10 for a HDMI cable...price £260

360 120gig £230, £10 for a recharge pack of money for batteries, plus £30 for online play...price £270.

You could go for the arcade 60gig pack at £170 but that comes with no HD cables, no HDD, and its still £30 for 12 months to play your games online, and with no HDD your limited to what you can do online and what you can access from the offset.
Well I have little to no interest in online gaming, I suppose I might use it more if it were free on xbox, but that's debatable, so Live Gold means fuck all to me.
And now the Xbox 360 Elite is £199 with the Arcade being £159, probably less online.

But hey at the end of the day its up to the individual what they want, as long as they are happy with their chosen system who has the right to say other wise....live and let live.:)

Well said sir, bravo! :techman:

It's very easy to get caught up in the "fan boy flame wars." I myself have all 3 consoles and probably prefer the PS3, and if someone speaks an obvious mistruth about it, I will respond. But as you've said, it's all really kind of silly to get so worked up about this console or that console.

I love how Sony have reduced the size from "fat cunt" to "average"

Given that the PS3 includes an internal PSU, whereas one could inflict significant head trauma with the X360's external PSU, I'm not sure where you're going with this.

Fair point, but PSUs are generally stashed away. For whatever reason, the PS3 unit is a bloody big machine.

(for the record, I don't actually care how big my console is - I'd quite happily own a PS3 fat)

and knocked the price down from "stupidly astronomical" to "would have been vaguely reasonable 2 years ago"
Microsoft were offering an X360 model with HDD and wireless functionality for under USD $200 two years ago?

Where exactly are you plucking "under $200" from?

And no, nobody did. Nobody is now for that matter.

and people are behaving like they made it smaller than a matchbook and reduced it to a fucking tenner.
Which people, exactly?

I'm talking about the general dipshits on forums like Gametrailers and Eurogamer, where a lot of people are spunking off about the new SKU disproportionately. Hence my disproportionate hyperbolic reaction. ;)

Is it really that much bigger than a X360? (I'm asking, not arguing) I haven't held mine up side by side to compare, but just looking at them, they seem roughly the same size.

That's why I was a little  at the "big" PS3 comment. Maybe it is, and I just don't realize. I have my Xbox vertical on a cabinet and the PS3 is horizontal on the bottom shelf of my TV stand, so that probably throws my perspective off.

The X360 is just slightly bigger and heavier than the PS3 - not by all that much, mind you (you would honestly have to measure them to tell). Granted, unless you're lugging your consoles around all the time.. do you really CARE? So long as it's small enough to fit on the shelf under the TV, I always thought this argument was a little silly.

^Yeah which is exactly I why I think the "slim" part of the PS3 is overblown. It's the price drop that's significant.

Where exactly are you plucking "under $200" from?

From the Slim's $299 retail price and accounting for its Blu-Ray functionality, the X360 equivalent of which tacked at least an additional USD $100 onto the price of the console.

That functionality may not be of interest to every gamer, but for those for whom it is, it certainly factors into the perceived value offered by the console.

It's certainly more meaningful than the responses from EA, Activision, et al. as reported breathlessly by the media.

"EA approves of PS3 price cut!"

No shit?

Well if I get the job that i'm interviewing for today at Best Buy... i am definately going to be saving at least one part of a paycheck for a new slim PS3 :)

I'm kinda glad they slimmed it down some, so I take it the new model won't need one of those "intercoolers" that seem so popular?

Besides, the amount of space on that sucker is pretty cool, so can you actually get entire games from the PSN with that?

Sure you aren't confusing the 360 and the PS3 here?

Besides, nobody *needs* an intercooler. Damn things cause more problems than they solve.

The PS3 never had a heat problem. The X360 did, but the intercoolers never did much for them, since it was (and apparently is) a very specific heat build-up between processors that an intercooler won't help with.

Yeah, and the PSN library is starting to get to be worthwhile, particularly if you add in the PS1 classic titles. I don't have a LOT of PSN-specific games, but I've got a few. Zen Pinball, for instance, is awesome.

All the download services have really come into their own in the past year or so. Stuff like Trine, Lost Winds and Shadow Complex have made, for me, PSN/XBLA/WiiWare as big a deal as the traditional retail channels.
