PS3 game finished in 2 days?

Son bought X-Men destiny for PS3 and has completed it within 2 days.

Do I have reasonable cause to return it to the shop and say 'I don't think it's worth what he paid for, I would have thought you'd get more for your money.?'

Has anyone returned a game they were not happy with and what were the results?

I'm not familiar with gaming so would really appreciate help and comments.

Yeah, I would say that is unreasonable. Before you buy a game you should research it. If you dont like it then that its on you.

It's not unusual to complete a single-player campaign within a day or two, especially for an FPS. The real test of a game is whether or not you're interested in going back to it after that for achievements, mods, multiplayer, alternate story paths, etc.

I've just looked into it a bit, it's got dreadful reviews and they reckon it's 5/6 hours game time. Is that normal for a game?
What play hours would you expect?

On the plus side it's selling on EBay for nearly as much as he bought it for So I'm thinking that.

That is a rip-off, but it's not the fault of the store where you bought it, it's the fault of the publisher.

It is a rip-off, sure, but you can't just return a used item because you didn't like it. Can you buy a movie and return it if you weren't sufficiently entertained?

Actually RoJo, thinking about it, you can return most things; clothing, accessories, household goods, phones, cameras, computers, anything that doesn't live up to your expectations.

I respect your view that it's different when applied to entertainment but I still think it's bad value for money.
Perhaps a letter to the CEO is in order

Just because a game is short doesn't mean it's defective or a ripoff. You can't return it for not being X hours long.

I'd expect around 20-30 hours, but I predominantly play open-world sandbox games. Linear games these days normally clock-in under 10 hours, with replay value focused mainly on the multiplayer aspect of the game.

There's a good chance that the people working at the store are gamers themselves and they agree with you that the game is too short, but there's nothing they can do about it. Unless it was a salesperson at the store that steered your son toward buying that game, in which case you should give them hell.

Just like anything else, there are games of different lengths to suit all tastes. Just like I wouldn't want a platformer that lasted 200 hours, some story driven games lose steam and become loaded with filler if they go more than a dozen or so hours.

Unless the game's box claimed this was a really long game, you and your son don't have a valid reason to return it. I'd try selling it on ebay as you suggested to recoup some of the costs to put towards another game. And this time, tell your son to do some damn research...it's not like he doesn't have the collective knowledge of the internet at his fingertips.

Yeah, usually when you buy a game, you can't return it if the seal is broken as it technically counts as being opened. Stores usually have a policy where they can't accept opened software.

yeah, the most that stores usually do is offer a replacement copy of the same game if the one you first bought is damaged. otherwise the best you can hope for is a reduced price store credit for taking back an open product. and that rarely happens nowadays.

The only game I've ever tried (and succeeded) in returning was Master of Orion III. And that game was defective.

Game publishers don't give a shit about single player experience anymore. It's all a cash grab for the legions of online players. They promise downloadable content that never comes when the legions flock to the next game. The golden era of gaming is OVER.

I was thinking about it and they don't let you do anything like that due to concerns over piracy and what not but I think things have come so far that most piracy doesn't actually involve copying physical media (as opposed to an internet download) these days. I know people are down on Gamestop these days but had you bought it used you actually could've returned it.

Yeah, it's a bit antiquated as it had been created during the PC gaming heydays, but then again it's also why we've got invasive copy protection systems like Starforce on the PC. I don't think it's as much a problem on consoles, but unfortunately the rule still stands as I don't think stores want to take chances anymore. Then again, you have stores like gamestop who sell opened games as new.

the worst game I ever bought was a used copy of Murakumo: Renegade Mech Pursuit for xbox . . . second worst was the Battlestar Galactica game for xbox
both were nigh unplayable
