Proof that VOY is the best Trek evar!

(Melakon, is it Bookman's? When we moved to Tucson in 1981, we lived walking distance from the original store. It was awesome; they have done very well.)

I laughed at some video tapes sitting in a display case at a church funded thrift store (theses places are excellent for second hand books.) a few months back and the old lady behind the counter agreed with me, explaining that the recent policy adopted 5 years ago was that they would accept no more tapes. Which means that the dozens of video tapes which they did have on display had all been sitting there for at least 5 years.

Also while looking for a new TV at an actual second hand shop that needs profit to make rent... I saw a wall of DVDs, new ones with exciting well known titles for a dollar each.

DVD's are losing their commercial appeal too, and no they are not going to be replaced by bluray.

It's a brave new world.

There still exist some second hand media stores where they have entire shelves of old VHS tapes for like $1.99 each.

I was looking at cashing in a number of my DVDs. I listed 25 of them, all genuine box office type movies, all in their original cases with artwork and discs in very good condition (I take care of my things), on a number of sites that offered to buy DVDs, and the best deal I was offered for the lot was $8. Most of them were going for anywhere from 15 cents to 25 cents, and yes, these were serious offers.

You need to find stupid people, or more accurately, old stupid people.

Although if that is the real price, maybe you should just give your collection away?

Christmas is around the corner, but if you really want to do something good with them, pick a niece or nephew, or a good friends 12 year old you assume will be receptive.

Blow their mind.

I buy videos for fifty cents from the thrift store down the road from me, kids videos that I can't be bothered finding elsewhere online, especially older stuff like The Wild Thornberrys. I got my video player from there for a couple bucks. The other day they had a massive box full of Trek videos, mostly VOY and TNG and the movies, in excellent condition. Someone bought it for ten dollars. Must have been at least 60 videos in there.

I have all kinds of now defunct box sets of Star Wars videos from varying stages of Lucas tweaking  The only other ones I've saved are the unremastered TOS, everything else I've given away to kids with miniscule internet and no money.

Every day I usually dedicate a little time to digitizing old media; I just finished converting my complete series of Wild Wild West DVD's for iPod. I have software that digitizes VHS, but I usually just run favorite old tapes downstairs in the basement onto an old DVD recorder and then rip the DVD up here at the computer. I used to buy big spools of blank DVDs and still have some left.

Heads wear.

Dirty tapes destroy heads.

A nine year old asks his mother for some Vodka to clean the heads on his video player.

She grudgingly agrees to his request for two large bottles, since he hardly keeps wanting to bother her with further requests every couple weeks for another thimble of hooch.

Hey, not all movies have been released on DVD yet. Gance's Napoleon, La Belle Noisseuse. Until all the great movies exist on DVD or Blu-Ray, there's still reason to keep an old VCR around.

I have an 80 minute video of a series of bands and singers and symphonies all playing Stairway to Heaven in varying diverse styles. 26 in total. This has never been released on dvd.
