Proof that VOY is the best Trek evar!

Whoa now that is a study. Every single episode of every series, graphs..

I had a good chuckle at this:

A little over a year ago, with the help of a few other Trekkies I met through Tumblr, I took on a huge but super-fun project: running each and every live-action Star Trek episode—from The Original Series through Enterprise—through the Bechdel Test.
Because it's so nerdy, "my super fun project analyzing all 700+ episodes!!"

Anyway CONGRATS to VOY!

I would have expected DS9 to score higher and TNG lower, but I guess Troi and Beverly were constantly having random discussions with each other. I wonder if talking about Wesley counts as talking about a man? I'm not sure talking about one's children is what the Bechdel Test was meant to exclude.

I think Seven's addition to VOY is what put it over the top in this one. I'm almost all the way through season 5 now, and having watched Seven's interactions with everyone through the past nearly two seasons, I think she has been an excellent addition to the show. I swear, I think I laugh more at her reactions to the rest of the crew than I do the actual jokes from the show. Plus, her and Janeway butting heads makes for interesting TV!

I think VOY was also the only Trek series to have more than two women in the main cast.

Edited to Add, after Denise Crosby walked out an airlock.

I just want to say J. it is great that you are enjoying VOY!

Yes Jeri is awesome and brings out a lot in all the characters she interacts with.

Thanks, and I really am. I had to change my perspective to do it, but it was easy. I was bringing all of my expectations to the show, without letting it sell itself on its own strengths and weaknesses. Once I got it in my head that this iteration of Trek was going to be more techno-oriented than the previous versions, I was able to relax and enjoy it, and when that happened, I discovered some wonderful characters.

I watched "Someone to watch over me" last night, and I both laughed my ass off at Seven's forays into the world of dating (with the good Doctor as her guide), and teared up when I saw the Doctor struggle to say how much he cared for Seven, which was so bittersweet.

This evening I watched "11:59", and I enjoyed it as well. Kate Mulgrew can sell anything. I've loved her as an actress for years, and she's so good at what she does. She can be feminine and vulnerable, softly yielding, and yet stubborn as she kicks your ass, all in the same episode. I am so glad she got the role over Genevieve Bujold.

We are all glad she got the role over Bujold

I know I've said this ad nauseum but VOY is the most humorous of Treks. Some of it's the writing and a lot of it's the actors who play off each other. Mulgrew is very nuanced with Janeway's expressions of barely concealed dubiousness about stuff she is confronted with. And I guess because they were good at funny the writers found it natural to write it in.

I was thinking about Bechdel Trek today and started wondering why ENT gave us such a male dominated show? They actually planned this out, kind of.. weird. T'Pol was everywhere but Hoshi a very minor character for the most part so it really was a sausagefest.

I have no idea. I figured ENT would have been the highest rated via the Bechdel test, but it wasn't. I like ENT but that's a bit regressive if you ask me. Star Trek should be pushing boundaries when it comes to gender equality. Of course, the top two on the list were DS9 and VOY, and that's because both shows feature women prominently. The actresses have major roles, and can work independently of the male actors on the show.

I think VOY's humor is why it ranks 2nd place of all the series for me, since nothing tops TOS because I started with that in first run. All the other shows usually take themselves too seriously instead of having fun with it.

It's too bade ENT got cancelled at 4 seasons. We could've had more Captain Hernandez! Maybe Travis and Hoshi could've been promoted instead of this "7 years and ensign" thing like they did to Harry Kim on VOY .

She fired her chief engineer and then hired hir back a week later after Tucker ran back to Archer.

It'll take years to drain all the sugar from Columbia's gas-tank.

Voy passed the Bechdel test with flying colors...
Wow, I am loving this thread! TOS is my sentimental favorite, and VOY is my modern favorite; thanks so much for the topic.

Edit. From the article: "...Behold the awesome power of the Janeway. Voyager had the only Trek season (five) where every single episode passed the test!..."
