Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to Sci-Fi

What's confusing about that?

That the trailer makes it look like a prequel to Alien.
Hmm. Indeed.

I actually wasn't paying close enough attention the first time. It does look at awful lot like a prequel to Alien. That big thing outside looks just like the space jockey ship. Hell, even the way the title "Prometheus" appears on the screen is exactly like "Alien" appeared on the screen in the first movie.

Either way, I'm intrigued.

Ofcourse its an Alien prequel, its got the "Space Jockey" in it for christs sake!

Yeah, I got that now. Like I said, I wasn't paying that much attention the first time I watched it.

At least they're letting the title stand on its own and not making it into something that sounds really stupid in an attempt to tie it in like:

The Alien Saga: Prometheus
Alien Origins: Prometheus
Prometheus: The First Alien

Quite right. Just imagine the "public outrage" if they did advertise it as a Alien prequel and it didn't feature any xenomorphs.
While I absolutely 100% agree with this, I can see how people are getting confused. The marketing so far has been about as subtle as a sledgehammer when it comes to highlighting the 'Alien' links. The trailer even has what sounds just like that same weird screech that was all over the original 'Alien' trailers.

Indeed. I really like the idea of it being able to stand on its own and really having nothing to do with the Alien movies other than the setting.

I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Alien, but damn this looks awesome!

I don't know why, but I'm kinda getting an Event Horizon feel from some of this. As if whatever the crew encounters somehow makes them go mad and turn against each other.

If that's the case, I hope Ridley handles it a lot better than that movie did.

I'm also wondering what role the Space Jockey ship plays in all of this. The trailer seems to indicate that it crashes, and we also see a shot of the gunnery position without the aged creature sitting in the chair. That said, the trailer looks amazing!

Looks intriguing - especially from a visual standpoint. Love the cinematography and overall mood. I'll definitely go see this flick.

But from a purely aesthetic standpoint, though, the slow reveal of "PROMETHEUS" in the trailer is distracting. I certainly understand and appreciate its connection to "Alien" but the first time I saw the trailer, I wondered if my internet connection had introduced unintended artifacts into the video. Plus, the tagline, "They went looking for our beginning - what they found could be our end," was painfully cliché.

Small point, but given that the shot of the giant holographic display appears to be the same room as the Space-jockey chair, I think it's safe to say that it's a navigation room/flight deck, not a gunnery station.

I think this has more to do with how much Event Horizon borrowed from the original Alien than anything else.

At this moment I think it's a bit early to say it's THE space jockey from "Alien"

It could be another space jockey.

"Before the Nostromo...

"Before Ripley...

"There was...

"...Prometheus."

"Ellen Ripley was a great man...but that was another life"

I think this thread is gonna be alot more entertaining than the movie. I'm out. To be honest, when I founs out it was the Lost guy writting it, I lost interest right away - friggin' 2001 rip off. I really hate Bad Robot and those Lost freaks.

I don't know how anybody possibly takes you seriously.

This looks so epic... Even if the script is a total failure, this will be worth it for the visuals alone.

My favorite scenes from the trailer: (I hope they show)

Best trailer I have seen in quite some time. More excited about this than any other film. So many questions...
