Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to Sci-Fi

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

Yeah I read the first sentence of the synopsis, yet now after 20 years of waiting and driving myself crazy with the mystery this year, I'm just going to go no spoilers from now on. Only 11 months to go! ;) Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Did I ask this here before? I think I did on the MFO board and no one knew what I meant. Does anyone else think the David android is a replicant? Or he could be an evil wayland Yutani android sent back to get the xenomorph at the start. ABCD Ash, Bishop, Call, David.

Ah, see I can stop reading stuff but that doesn't stop my mind from speculating! Space Jockeys and humans oh my! :)

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

i wish they would quit being so vague about this project. i have a feeling that we're going to be teased with possible Aliens showing up...and then get a quick cameo or something.

Well there IS a more detailed, spoiler-heavy synopsis out there right now, but it's not certain how accurate it is.

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

"Prometheus" has an official synopsis now and Ben Foster has joined the cast.

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Offi...Revealed-Ben-Foster-Joins-The-Cast-25499.html
and oddly cinemablend also has a new article yesterday about the plot synopsis being very similar to the plot of Star Trek V:TFF.
as if it's like some sort of Ridley Scott take on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.

Is Ridley Scott's Alien Prequel Basically Star Trek V?

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

they seem to make it out like that is a bad thing. it wasn't the plot that made Star Trek V, it was the acting, directing, special effects...

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

Not to mention there's probably a dozen different ways you could tell that story (Shatner just happened to pick the worst).

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

Wasn't this big and detailed spoiler thing proven to be fake anyway? Based on a video game or something? Didn't Fox release some smaller spoiler free thing? Eh, I can't keep track anymore.

How many days to go? :)

"What would god want with a xenomorph?"

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

Some new info I found on Empire's website today, which they got from comic con. The article has quite a bit of information, so read it to find out about naked push-ups. I'm just going to quote what Ridley Scott said.

Ridley Scott says:

"What I want to do is scare the living shit out of you. It shares one piece of DNA with the original Alien but that's all." It involves a space exploration mission that finds a "civilisation that is home to some very uncivilised behaviour.

"I was too busy doing other movies and exploring other genres, so frankly I never thought about science fiction until I started to realise that there was something in the first of the Aliens that no one had ever asked the question about, and in the next three there was no exploration of that question, and I thought that could be the centre of what we’ve just completed. That said, that’s the only link to the original Alien. But in the last few minutes of the movie you’ll understand what I’m talking about."

Sounds intriguing, I look forward to having the living shit scared out of me!

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

You know in the commentary to the Alien DVD, which was recorded what, 2003? 2004? - Ridley Scott does idly muse that none of the sequels had ever really dealt with the Space Jockey and if he was going to make another Alien film that'd be what he'd do. At the time I thought it was more a throaway comment to make (hey, it is something interesting to say when the Space Jockey's corpse is on the screen, after all), so it's interesting to see something quasi-sorta come out of that.

Ridley Scott has made two of the most rewatchable sci-fi films around, and Alien in particular has been a staple of my Halloween viewing for years and years, so... well, one will see. I've heard his Robin Hood was pretty dull though I didn't see it - and besides Cameron's Aliens, Alien hasn't been much of a franchise - so I'm cautiously optimistic at this point.

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

Kinda sounds like the characters go on some long journey that ends with a big reveal of the Space Jockey (much like starchild at the end of 2001), and that somehow he figures into all these deeper questions the movie is asking.

In any case, I'm hoping that the xenomorphs don't factor very heavily into the story, and that it doesn't turn into the usual thing of the crew getting wiped out one by one at the end.

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

isn't this going to be a PG-13?

Scott said he's filming both R and PG-13 versions of certain scenes. He'll push the studio to release the R, but something tells me won't be seeing that until the inevitable "Unedited Director's Cut" on Blu-ray.

The movie cost an insane amount of money to make, so the studio will clearly want it to be PG13.

I'm still afraid this movie will bomb big, so whatever makes it a better movie and makes more money I'll be happy with.

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

Definitely some prettier actors and slicker costumes than in the first Alien. But then I guess these aren't the same blue-collar, coal miner types we saw before either.

To me the real key is whether Scott can recapture the same incredible atmosphere the first movie had. Hopefully he doesn't try to go for a more modern, faster-paced kind of thing, with a bunch of unnecessary music and action.

I'm excited. I'll be there on opening day.
