Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to Sci-Fi

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

Secretly I think Ridley Scott wants to tie Blade Runner,Alien and Prometheus into one big "Ridley Scott Universe"

I was under the impression they already were thanks to Weyland Yutani.

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

^Pardon my ignorance, but what does Weyland-Yutani have to do with Blade Runner?

It's logo is all over the place in Blade Runner apparently. I've never bothered to check for myself however.

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

It can't be Weyland-Yutani though, as that name didn't exist until 1986. There was no 'D' in it originally. I'll have to keep a sharp eye next time I watch BR for the WY wings (logo) as I've never noticed them before.

Also, the Spinner take-off uses footage on a monitor that comes from the Nostromo separation sequence, so there's that tenuous link too. ;)

Daneel, as the thread creator, would you object to me changing the title of this thread to "Prometheus: Ridley Scott Returns to Sci-Fi?"

Which in turn shows up in the Serenity Valley flashback fight scenes in Firefly (its logo shows up on some of the weapons used). And Edward James Olmos has said that nuBSG takes place in the Blade Runner universe.

Make of that what you will. :borg:

if Fassbender is an android in Prometheus maybe he can show up in the upcoming Blade Runner project.

Poor quality leaked trailer!

I do think P and Blade Runner are connected, I hope so. :)

The trailer used "it's" in place of the possessive "its" in that last quote. C'mon people, you're supposed to be professionals. (I know it's a petty thing to be concerned about, but the trailer was too blurry to gripe about anything else. :p)

So at the very least they are doing this similar to Alien's trailer.

And what does "Skip Film" mean? I see it popping up frequently in there. Is it just some sort of work-in-progress thing? I'll assume they aren't actually telling us to skip the film. ;)

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

The trailer seemingly is pretty cool but in that stolen video thing, all I could think of was "WTF am I watching??"

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

Hard to make out much, but that did look pretty awesome. Actually made this universe seem truly dark and scary again, which I didn't think was possible. And despite what Ridley's been saying, it looks like the xenomorphs are all OVER this movie.

Or at least some kind of similar, alien-style threat.

Not at all.

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

They ought to have remained separate franchises - unfortunately, there was cross pollination. I blame Monsanto...

I dont mind the franchises being linked, i just think they ought to have hired a director capable of producing a decent film.

Unfortunately they gave it to Paul WS "How can i shoehorn my wife into this while crapping over an established franchise" Anderson.

You do realise any good director, like Ridley Scott and any decent actors, like Sigourney Weaver, would have had no truck with this crossover no matter how wonderful the fanboys think it might be? It was a pisspoor idea, incredibly badly realised, and anyone with any sense wouldn't mention it in a Ridley Scott thread.

Looks pretty sweet. Just watched the first 2 movies. Surprised at how well the first one has held up after all these years.

Get over it.

Virtually any idea can work given the right talent behind it and an Alien and Predator crossover could have worked as well. There is nothing intrinsically bad with a universe sharing two alien species. What is lacking and has always been lacking filmwise is anyone being involved having the ability to mesh the two in a logical, well crafted way.

And as for not having the sense to avoid mentioning it in a Ridley Scott thread, i'm so terribly sorry to have offended your delicate sensibilities by mentioning a film you don't like. Perhaps you should go and have a lie down lest someone mention Alien Vs Predator 2.

Alien Vs Predator 2 :p

ETA: I've read that the original comic book crossover was good, but not having seen it, I can't say. All I do know is that the movie crossovers were barely adequate and piss poor, in that order.

Re: The latest "Alien" prequel rumours - Scott directing, in 3-D?

I think the big difference between the film and the comic/video game incarnations of AVP is that the latter is often set in the future like the Alien films, whereas the films were set 'today'.

The only real connection between the films and the original comic, I think, is that the heroine-who teams up with a Predator who dies-is made a honorary Predator and the Predators using a captured Queen to create Aliens to hunt.
