Prometheus 2: Apparently it's happening

That objection is preempted by the current argument in the thread that the writer of Prometheus perverted what the Jockey was in Alien and shoehorned it into a suit for the needs of an awful script.

If you want to read an awful script, read Spaihts' original draft of Prometheus before Lindelof got involved. Christ, it read like the most self-indulgent fan film.

Am I to understand there exists an example of something touched by Lindelhof that actually represents an improvement over a prior state? :wtf: (I'm by no means a Lindelhof basher--it's just that such bashing appears to have become something of an internet sport.)

Nobody, not even Scott, knew exactly what the Space Jockey was in Alien. The final product of Prometheus renders past speculation moot. If it didn't turn out to be exactly what some folk speculated or wanted it to be, it's not the fault of the writers.

Yes. Spaihts' script for Prometheus was essentially Alien 0.5. It was terrible fan service and a complete mess of, "Hey! Hey, remember this? How cool is this? This is totally a callback! Look how awesome this callback is!"

Apparently in a German interview, Scott said Prometheus would connect to the Alien franchise, but not until the third or fourth movie. It's been translated to German and the back to English, so I can't tell if he's joking. If he's not, I'm glad he's enthusiastic enough about this franchise. I loved Prometheus.

I really don't get Scott's reasoning behind any of this. The "dragon" is clearly an "Alien" Xenomorph of another genetic variant, based on the Engineers, who are clearly "Space Jockeys", also from the movie "Alien". The "Weyland" company is obviously a direct precursor to the later "Weyland/Yutani" corporation in Alien and later films.

I am completely baffled why there is this perversely zealous insistence that Prometheus is not a prequel to Alien on Scott's part, when it all most certainly is.

Something just really doesn't track here for me...

Scott's not saying that Prometheus and Alien are unrelated, he's saying that the xenomorph bores him and he's way more interested in exploring the race of aliens that created them and why. The movies still take place in a shared universe.

Okay that makes sense. Scott's message just seemed a bit muddied to me.

I'm going to wait until he says it to an actual English-written publication; the language in the interview is really broken and muddled and not at all the rather deft language that Scott typically uses in his interviews. He said again and again both before and after the release of Prometheus that he wanted nothing whatsoever to do with the Aliens anymore and wanted to explore the Engineers, which again is why he had Lindelof rewrite Spaihts' original script (which literally took place on LV-426).

In any event, even though I know he's keeping as busy as possible ever since his brother's passing, I have serious doubts that Sir Ridley would be alive long enough to make three sequels.

The only way they could redeem the first mess of a film would be to start Prom. 2 with a pull back from a holo screen and to hear a Company suit say,

"And THIS is how we DON'T want it to play out!"

He would go on to tell the group of scientists that, of course, as trained professionals, were they to come across alien worms, "...you'd NEVER want to play with them, WOULD YOU?!?!"

And cue the ACTUAL movie.

The exciting thing for me about that interview was that he mentioned the Engineers creating the bioweapons in order to fight someone. A new enemy!!!

i think t's fine that Scott doesn't want to have the Aliens as characters anymore, but rather the Engineers (and their possible enemy).

But the problem for me with Prometheus was that they dd things that called back to the original move -- having an alien burst out of the Engineer's stomach, and an ENgineer ship crashing...but not the exact same thing...which means, somewhere , sometime, another series of events happen AGAIN.

I think we could've gotten the end result of the ship crash on LV-246, but still have been a minor thing yet still have have the set up Scott wanted to be the main event. Crashng into the Engineers ship cold have easily happened n Space, and the vessel lands on LV-246, setting up ALien.

Anything not indigenous to Earth is alien from our point of view. Engineers are aliens. So there are going to be aliens no matter what. But I suppose you mean the classic Alien xenomorphs.

I don't think Prometheus is as bad as many make it out to be.
Ok, sure, I guess, on the AvP scale. And some people like to eat thymus and pancreas glands of animals, but call them "sweetbreads" which sounds rather appealing.

Prometheus Marketing: "Not as bad as many make it out to be!"

Prom. 2 gets a title;

"Alien: Paradise Lost"

You know - that "Prometheus" series that has nothing to do with the "Alien" series?

Jebus H. Cristo, is Ridley Scott losing it?!? Is he sliding into dementia and senility?!?!

Make up your damned mind, sir!!!

I was wondering how they were going to name this, particularly since the titular ship was destroyed in the last one.

Paradise and Paradise Lost had been rumored as potential titles ever since a sequel was announced in 2012. I'm guessing the Alien title was appended by Fox for marketing / branding purposes.

It's better this way.

They don't have to beat around the bush at their real intentions now.

We know it will involve xenomorphs in some way
