Finally back with a chance to sit for a minute and the reaction to this vignette.

Since I play Cmdr. Delaney, I am interested in the reaction to his portrayal. Where can I I prove, what did I do well, etc. I will be the first to say that I did not like my job here. Having seen this before most everyone else, I saw what I didn't like and, hopefully, modified my performance for "Archway." With any luck you will see a steady progression this season.

In your critiques, I would greatly appreciate it if you gave examples of what to do or avoid. For example, give me an episode or movie (doesn't have to be Trek) and what the character did that was right or wrong.

One thing I noticed further up thread was that someone thought Delaney was being played as the "mellow" character. That is interesting to me simply because I am not a mellow person so I must have channelled that from somewhere. He is more the quiet type, gruff, who will slowly let people into his circle and will protect them to the end once they have entered the circle.

What about the character was mellow? How can I move more to the description above?

Much appreciated. I always thought I looked wooden in this episode. I am still intrigued by the "mellow" comment. It wasn't a negative statement (and I didn't takeit as such), it is just so not me. Really surprising. I hope to hear more (from this and "the Void").

Maybe a little more eye contact will help others help you get to what you're going for as they are always going to be concerned in getting where they're going and getting help from you to look good, etc., so it's more importamt that you make sure you make others good as well. It's almost like a second, or third reality in this case. It's not unlike real life in a way. But you can't completely let go of the first reality either. I would like to see you be more intense and focused. It might help to imagine an emergancy is immenant. Even thinking about nothing is better than not thinking. A good guy to watch is Paul Newman. He made everybody look good and better as if he controlled them mentally even to do what he wants them to do to compliment his performance. I'm a musician so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

I thought the Cmdr Delaney was insightful. He realized that the Doctor was NOT reacting to him, (he simply could not be the cause of that reaction) but that there was some history between her and the Captain. He did not want to get in the middle of that fight. He probably realized that he had been set up for this by the Captain, and since he did not know the history, he decided to just turn it around, and make sure he wasn't on one side or the other is a fight between two superior officers. I thought he was clever. He reminded me of some of my friends who are top salespeople. They never let other people put them in a position where they are fighting on one side or another of a quarrel in which they have no interest.

This is my edit: I realized that the salesman I was most thinking of (retired chief of sales for a major American corporation) also served in the Navy for 14 years, and left when he was asked to re-up for another four, and was promised he'd be an admiral by the end of those four years... but was to be given assignments he decided he didn't want. (Today we know those assignment would have exposed him to Agent Orange, and he made the right choice for himself.) When people get very unreasonable he stand firm and smiles but takes a mental step back and says what it takes to get through without damaging any of his relationship, always finding a way to increase his advantage with everyone. He has always shown remarkable judgement.

You have brought the Stoic, quiet and polite Delaney to life with a great performance; he reacted to the CMO's questioning the Captain's decision to disregard Star Fleet Medical regulations with a competent and logical demeanor, his immediate pick up that Drake was not upset, she was just concerned as to why? Why? Would the Captain forget to to advise her that he had cancelled Delaney's physical and sent him to duty? Drake is not the shrew, the witch, the scrooge that some people tend to think she is. Remember most of the time appearances are NOT as they seem. Drake is a Doctor, and has seen more death and life threatening injuries than any lay person, she is from the South so yes, to some who are Not Natives of the Southern USA may find her tone, and demeanor off putting. But just know this. Doctor Maura Drake, CMO takes her duty seriously, and she knows this. The Buck stops at Sickbay should anything, and I do mean anything happens to a Person on duty, before they took their crew physical, especially a newly incoming Crew member. What if Delaney had a heart defect or a life threatening aneurysm? And he suffered a life threatening incident while on the bridge? Not only would Star Fleet Internal Affairs and Star Fleet Medical call in the Captain to investigate, they would also call in the CMO, and they would ultimately land and cite the CMO for the death, due to the new crew member going to duty without getting their physical.

So, you played Delaney right and pretty much on the mark. As I attempted to play Doctor Drake.

You know, there are no perfect performances, no perfect films, even the ones that win awards, Oscars etc. are not perfect.

We strive to improve with each thing we do. And I can congratulate you on a well acted Doctor's Orders where Delaney is concerned, and the Actress who plays MTume as well. You both did a fine job.

Tim and Randy excel again with direction, production filming setting up the shots, etc. As do the editing people. Well done.

Thanks for the comments. The first thing I thought of when I heard Paul Newman was "Cool Hand Luke." Tought act to follow there.

The sales analogy was also insightful. Very interesting. Thank you all again.

Everyone else - feel free to chime in.

Well, your character is a good solid person. And you nailed the correct channel for Delaney.

Now me? Well, you and Randy know me, I am own harshest Critic ;) personally, I am having to deal with my comments to myself, and trust me, where I am concerned to myself. I sometimes hide from my own critique lol. I have a RPG Character Admiral T'Moya, some of her crew dubbed her C.I.B. affectionately of course lol.....

Vimeo just seems to have the better quality vids. Don't know if they use the same compression that YouTube does, but whatever they're doing is great!

Filming on "Duty Bound" recommences on Thursday, February 16th, 8:00pm - 9:30pm, at the Ready Room set located at Fast Copy in Albany, Georgia. A call has been issued for Sara Higgins MacKenzie (Yeoman Yanari), Jeffrey Green (Captain Grigory) and Director Bill MacKenzie. This is the epilogue of the vignette for which filming took place over the Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend.

On Friday evening, February 17th, 6:00pm - 10:00pm, at the Transporter Room set located in Fast Copy in Albany, filming will begin (and hopefully will be completed) for "Darkness," a vignette. Appearing in this vignette are Chris Coleman (Ens. Drew Wallace), Eric R. Moore (Lt. Cmdr. Polim n'Ahman), Sara Higgins MacKenzie (Yeo. Yanari), Christin Woods (Ens. T'Noshi), Stephanie Burke (Lt. Sharon M'tume), and Pamela Robinson (Transporter Chief Marsden). This vignette was written by Randall Landers, and will be directed by him as well.

In addition to the filming going on, progress continues to be made on "Delivery," and it's still hoped that a February release will be possible.
