Project Pathfinder and Barclay responsible for Red Matter?

I understand the movie stated Red Matter was of Vulcan origin, but could the reason the Vulcans developed such a technology was to create an artificial singularity similar to what Barclay needed for communication with Voyager via the MIDAS array? I understand the events of the Hobart star collapsing was much after the arrival of Voyager in the Alpha Quadrant, but could the Vulcans not have mothballed the tech because Barclay had already devised a way of using the pulsar to generate the micro wormhole?

Hmmm, interesting theory. The episode in question did explicitly mention the Vulcans were assisting with Project Pathfinder. The red matter technology might well have been an offshoot of hyper-subspace communications research. I like it. :bolian:

Vulcans did not develop red matter. According to the book, red matter is fairly abundant and naturally occurring in the vacuum of space, throughout the galaxy.

It floats around harmlessly until it encounters a sufficiently hot and energetic force, capable of igniting its devastating properties.

Vulcans only developed a device employing red matter. Nothing was said regarding any other use than to quell the supernova.
