Probably, I'm not sure of the specifics, it's just the one most non-Irish think of as an "Irish accent", the ones that people like Colin Farrel and Saoirse Ronan have.

I suspect you're thinking of a Dublin, or more specifically a D4 accent, I find it hard to imagine you would understand a strong Kerry or Cork accent.
LOL! I can vouch for that, I went to my sister-in-law's wedding to a Cork man, and barely understood one word in three from the speeches, and I was living in NI at the time so was reasonably familiar with most accents on the island.

Of course you're not sure of the specifics, that is bleedingly obvious.

There is nothing wrong with not knowing things, not admitting you're wrong, or not learning from your mistake, that's where the "wrongness" is.

Are you sure, have you run a poll, found out what the well over 7 Billion non Irish people in the world think? Or are you basing this on your very own opinion - which there is nothing wrong with.

the ones that people like Colin Farrel and Saoirse Ronan have.

They both have a pretty generic Dublin accent.

Assuming you (@JD) can understand what anyone from a given nation says because of one generic accent is like me saying all Americans sound the same because of some random Californian news reader. It's just silly.

For the size of the island, the accents are wide and varied, which seems to surprise individuals on occasions as you said.

JD has a point - for American TV, there is one Irish accent - the lilt that everyone loves - like you said earlier Dimesdan, it's a posh Dublin accent. In the same way as the "English accent" is Home Counties.

anyway, all this is getting very far away from German Star Trek books!

I'm honestly very sorry, I didn't mean to upset anyone.

You did nothing wrong, imo.

Back on topic: I've yet to check these books out. I understand that they take place in the current 24th century novel continuity, right? How tightly are they intertwined? Does it feel like a crossover with the other series, or does it pretty much go its own way?

But seriously, did that guy find his son? I need to know.
I think he did (after returning to his homeworld). I mean, this is Star Trek. Every decent person deserves a happy end. :)

(Interesting discussion about the problems of translating accents by the way.)

They go very much their own way, although certain events in the current novel continuity are mentioned. I think that some people here around might be more helpful with the continuity (what to read first and in what sequence).

Your last post came across as pretty angry to me.

Well, see, he types with an Irish accent. That may be where the misunderstanding lies.

Cool. I'm caught up with the newer books, but hearing that these books go their own way makes them even more interesting to me.

Read all three books before you judge the whole story. Captain Adams is refreshing and different. Some nice cameos are involved.

This past weekend, our Literary Treks episode about this novel was published:
Literary Treks 253: Basically Watching the News Frankly, which features an interview with one of the authors of In the Heart of Chaos, Christian Humberg! It was a great discussion and it was really cool to get some insight into the Prometheus trilogy and how it came to be. Hope you folks enjoy it!

I listened to your Literary Treks podcast. I really liked listening to your interview with author Christian Humberg and the ideas for the Prometheus books Creating the Characters of the Prometheus crewmembers and the creation of the Renao was fascinating .The authors ploting th e complex storyarcs all came together in this series final novel .I really liked how the last book wrapped up this miniseries.

I gave it an above average. Regarding awkwardness in translation, yes, I caught a couple of spots, but all in all, most of the translation bugs from the first book have been ironed out.

Pleasantly surprised . . .
Jassat ended up surviving. I can't help wondering, though, whether the "Son of the Ancient Reds" wound up not simply being destroyed. I also wonder if there may yet be some connection between his species and (*).

I really liked the fact Spock had an important role to help be a dridge between the Prometheus crew and the Klingons in the books was well written. That was one of my favorite parts in all three books.

One disappointment was that we didn't see more of
the therapeutic mind meld. Of course, when the subject first came up, my immediate thought was Simon Van Gelder.

Upon reflection, I also find the ending just a bit too neat and tidy: these people had been under the influence of an aggressivore for a rather long time. Is it really that plausible that the Purifying Flame would simply be extinguished like a candle?
