According to TV.com, the producers of Prison Break are ending the series after the conclusion of this current season.

Can't say that I'm surprised, as it looks like this season's story arc is somewhat of the swandance, with the take down of "The Company" that started the whole plot to begin with.

The producers say that the whole show was only originally supposed to be a mini-series. But it's story arc got spread out over a 4-season series.

Good. The story has run out of steam.

Here's hoping that Wentworth Miller, William Fitchner and Robert Knepper all land in interesting shows quickly. Also, the Prison Break writers did a decent job of keeping a very limited premise alive, all things considered, and showed some deftness in character writing. Heroes should hire them - God knows that show needs help.

Whomever does the weekly/daily/semi-daily ratings threads pointed this out a few days ago when it was announced.

Can't say I am surprised or disapointed. This set-up for this season alone was indicative of that.

It's been a good show, I've pretty much liked all of it (even the previous Sona season which gets a degree or two of hate here) but it has a premise that can't be stretched out too much further. Four seasons is a pretty good run for a series like this. Michael has broken out prison, ran all of the country/world trying to bring down The Company, broken out of another prison and is now doing this A-Team approach to bringing down The Company.

Really, there's not much else they can do with this One World Conspiracy plot and trying to stay on the same general "theme" of Michael putting together elaborate plans to get them through/out of the season's situation.

It's time to get these characters to their final positions, end the storys and let this one go. Franly, it's probably ran two seasons too long as that's the most it could've had in it without straining the premise (one season being them getting out the second season with them on the run/clearing their names/whatever.)

This season has by far been the worst, but I do agree it has been written better than a lot of other shows. I do hope the cast fines new opportunities instead of just fading away. I was a bit peeved at the mid season cliffhanger. Their Mother! You gave us an entire season of Soma and you wait until now to bring in their Mother?
