Primeval Series 3 (Spoilers)

I'm surprised to see there isn't a thread already. Series 3 started tonight. Nice to see they're pushing the mythology of the series forward. Introducing the idea that myths and legends are down to the anomalies, and a way to contain them are both interesting moves.
It is also looks like they're pushing for Ben Miller to have more to do this series as part of the set up for a new series arc. And a pretty good introduction for the new characters too. All in all a good start to the new series.

yes learning more about the anomaly was nice, but im less sure about the idea of it being about previous mythical creatures, it could be ok, but they could go OTT with the whole idea.

im going to have to watch the episode again, and pause on the end, in what im guessing was future London, reminds me its good to see London clearly being used this series,t hat was less the case in S1 & S2.

the bowing thing, again thats something im going to need to watch again as that seemed odd

Sounds more and more like Stargate in reverse. So now our myths and legends sprang from creatures split out of the anomalies. When will Daniel Jackson show up, claiming the anomalies were by products of alien landing pads?

Love the show, and will miss Steven. Though given the ending of s2, there are always possibilities...

did anyone else notice that Lucy Brown's character seems to be back to being Claudia? Cutter called her 'Claudia Brown' and she didn't say anything, she was acting more like Claudia and dressing more like Claudia. yet she was credited as 'Jenny Lewis'. and no one else called her by name.

I don't think that was the point. She said "You can't change the past" and he referred to her as Claudia Brown as a reference to the fact that you can.

I think she dressed more like Jenny than Claudia. But I can't say it particularly stood out to me.
Maybe I'll have to watch it again tonight and compare.

The official word is that Steven will not be back (though don't rule out a surprise guest appearance).
Behind the scenes, that could be because actor James Murray and his wife, Sarah Parrish, were expecting their first child towards the end of shooting on season two, so he may have wanted time off to be a hands-on father, rather than a full-time actor on a nine-month series shoot. Sadly, as it turned out, his baby died after a few months, sometime last year.

quick ratings update

The return of Robin Hood beat the return of Primeval in the ratings last night, according to early figures.

The BBC drama - back for its third series - averaged 5.62m (25.8%) over 45 minutes from 6.50pm. Its ITV1 rival, also launching its third run, put in 5.27m (23.7%) over an hour from 7.20pm.

Hood suffered from being up against Harry Hill's TV Burp, which averaged 5.93m (27.6%) for ITV1 over 30 minutes, but when Primeval began at 7.20pm, Hood's audience jumped from 5.65m to a peak of 6.74m (29.7%) within five minutes.
The audience for Hood was roughly on par with that for the first episode of series two, which managed 5.76m (26.5%) on October 6, 2007.

Primeval, meanwhile, was down around 500k on its second series premiere, which delivered 5.72m (24.9%) on January 12, 2008.

I dont know what Primeval peaked at.

That's not too bad considering that really previous series didn't have similar shows to be proper competition in the slot opposite it.

I'll just watch Doctor Who on HD and record Primeval. But I doubt they'll be going head to head, Doctor Who can't possibly fit on Saturday night, unless they move one of their other shows.

19:25 - Robin Hood
20:10 - Lottery: 1 vs 100
21:00 - Casualty

I think 18:25 is too early for Doctor Who, and the BBC would be better off reducing the Lottery to just the draws and going more like this.

20:45 - Lottery Draws
