I like Enterprise as a severely flawed creation. LOTS of stuff I would have done/handled differently but it wasn't my show to make and it is what it is. That said, I've enjoyed watching it over the years.
For DSC, I was really hoping they'd go at least 50 years forward of Nemesis and start with a clean sheet, with the ability to use everything that has come before and not be hamstrung by past events. Just keep on trucking into the heretofore unexplored regions of the galaxy and have at it.
The news that they are going to go 10 years pre-TOS leaves me with some mixed feelings. On the pro side, the TOS era is unquestionably my favorite era of Trek, so a series set in this time frame doesn't make my head explode or anything like that. If they preserve some the thematic elements of the TOS era (the attitude of Starfleet, the space IS the wild frontier mindset, etc), that'll be good. The TOS era is a little wilder, more dangerous, and romantic than the TNG era. Let's hope they capture the feel.
On the con side, the show creators are making a lot of work for themselves right out of the gate. If they respect Trek canon and want to adhere to it, there is a veritable warehouse full of material they are not going to be able to make use of. Anything from the 24th Century for starters, and plot elements not seen for the first time until TOS, such as the Romulans. The danger here is that they are going to fall into the same trap Enterprise fell in to, which was to promise something new and exciting in the prequel era and then give us a show with the Borg, the Ferengi, Phasers, Photon Torpedoes, Starfleet, Klingons a full half century before their time, and Romulans already in possession of their cutting edge 23rd Century technology. If they want to 'prequelize' the new show by setting it mid-stream, fine, but then they need to ADHERE to the restrictions they've set upon themselves. I think they have a good chance of making it work, given the serialized nature of this show and the way they are planning to dramatize 'a novel' with each season.
To summarize, let's just say that based on all I've seen so far, I have concerns but I am cautiously optimistic.
