Spoilers Predator: Badlands

How do you rate Predator: Badlands?

I'll admit, not having FTL for humans seems quite odd in a universe where they're going to several planets regularly, but it didn't dampen my enjoyment of this movie.
Honestly, deep diving in Yautja culture was amazing, and after decades of comics and novels with that name for the species, it was thrilling to finally have it used on screen like this. I really hope this gets a sequel, perhaps one that could be a true AvP, since Weyland-Utani is now established as part of the Predator universe.

I didn't have an issue with that. Silent commentary that humans are technologically inferior to Yautja. I'm good with that notion.

Oh for sure, inferior is a great description. But it does seem odd that humanity can go to a lot of different planets with sublight engines only.
Again, it did not hamper my enjoyment of the movie. It was simply a 'huh, that's odd' moment and I moved on.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

We all like different ones, so for the record my preferences:

Predator -
Predator 2 -
Alien vs Predator - ✘
Aliens vs Predator: Requiem - ✘
Predators - Mid. Technically a but only just barely.
The Predator - ✘
Prey -
Predator: Killer of Killers -
Predator: Badlands -

That's probably my view as well, though I probably like Predators more than you do and the first AVP is...ok, maybe I'm feeling generous because of how bad Requiem was!

Yeah, I should say don't mistake the ones marked ✘ as being equal in my eyes. Requiem is a hell of a lot lower than AvP. The Predator is probably somewhere in the middle. Awful, but not Requiem-level awful. :D

Edit: Funny, it just occurred to me that while I don't agree with every decision Dan Trachtenberg has made, he has given me the first 'three good ones in a row' for the franchise. And for that alone, he has my thanks.

I'm basically on board with this, except I thought the Director's Cut of AvP was mid and a very cool movie was buried under the PG-13 rating.
I actually really enjoyed The Predator but that's because of the motley crew of inmates.

Honestly, in a top three it's always the first two movies, but right now I'd need a rewatch of Prey and a second viewing of Badlands to see which one is the number three.

How long are we supposed to assume it took for the W-Y ship of androids to get to Genna?

65 freakin' years? :brickwall:

And how do they already know the Yautja language?

How long did that take?

Like I said, it's odd. But it didn't hamper my enjoyment of the movie.

I haven't watched Badlands yet, it's on the top of my list when I sign back up for Disney+ & Hulu next month, so I don't know the full context, but suddenly establishing that humans really makes no sense if this takes place in the same universe as the Alien movies. There has been a ton of interstellar travel in those movies, and I find it hard to believe that all of that was happening at sublight speeds. If this is a separate Predator universe that just happens to have it's own Weyland-Yutani, that might be a little easier to accept since up till now they've been set in the present, near future or past, and space travel has never really been an issue.

IMO, it doesn't.

For my money, there are Aliens in the Predator universe, but no Predators in the Alien universe.

Having Weyland-Yutani in Badlands makes moderate sense as there was already a Weyland Industries in AvP, and a powerful Mrs. Yutani in AvP2.
