Preacher - AMC TV Show - Discussion Thread

Loved the graphic novels - still unsure how some of it can be translated into a series without causing outrage.

Amazon wants $2.99 per episode for me to watch so I guess I will have to wait a while.

Well, that had very, very little to do with the comic... but it wasn't bad. I just wish there was more impetus to the story. I don't see why a non-comics-reader would have been willing to stay past the first commercial break, there's no hook there.

My wife got about twenty minutes in and I got a little further, I found it a bit boring to be honest.

Cool pilot. Not understanding some of what's going on, but I'm sure it will be revealed. Definitely will keep watching.

Well, West Texas isn't much different from New Mexico in terms of location! ;)

Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos would like to disagree with you on that one! LOL!

Yeah, overall i thought it was a bit boring as well, but the ending off the episode made me go "holy fuck!"; in other words it made me interested in the next episode...

Yeah that was pretty much my issue. I've never read the comic but thought the show still looked like it could be dark and cool and fun to watch... but nothing about the premiere grabbed me at all. It was shot in a really dynamic way but the characters were more weird and quirky than truly compelling, and I just didn't find myself engaged by any of it.

I had never read this comic, to my knowledge, either, and didn't know what to expect. I really liked Tulip. Great actress and character; she survived the fight to the death in the cornfield and she enlisted the kids to construct a bazooka to take down a helicopter. I didn't care for Custer much at first, but his smile while mopping the floor with Donny and his cronies (in order to protect the kid) made him more interesting. I'm invested enough in the many mysteries to look forward to the next episode.

AMC has the pilot episode on YouTube (without commercials)

IMO some great scenes with a lot of waiting in between.
Loved the 'Mary Poppins'' out of the airplane

Ok, that was fun. They have captioning for Arseface, but I sort of need it for Cassidy even more. Favorite line Tulip: "Now that's predicamental!"

I liked the second episode even better than the first.. Cassidy is awesome again, Preacher is slowly realizing what he can do now and Tulip is getting cooler every second (her i like especially as we all know her from Agents of Shield but this role gives her a far more vibrant character which really suits her).

Having spoiled myself in general about the story i can say that this ought to be a very interesting show if they pull off the main cornerstones (and it looks like they directly heading for them) so i'll be definitely sticking around.

After two episodes I'm in love with the show (doesn't happen often), the atmosphere is great, the cinematography is beautiful and the characters are pretty great as well, Tulip is awesome and Cassidy is a riot.

OK, the opening of episode 2 instantly won me over. I thought SPOILER wasn't going to appear this season, so I cheered like a madman at that. But he's GERMAN? Is that from the comics? I haven't read them in so long.

I do have to groan at the inclusion of Odin Quincannon though. That arc was by far my least favorite aspect of the series and you could loose it without losing a damn thing.

I'm confused about whether those two weird bad guys are supposed to be
the two angels sent after Genesis or just Grail agents. Since they apparently regenerated from death I would guess angels, but since they were after Cassidy I would guess Grail. Then again we did see them investigating the Genesis appearances around the globe, so I guess that makes them angels. Also, Grail agents don't have any kind of super powers.

Also, in the pilot we see them investigating the Genesis appearances, but when they get to Texas their test doesn't work on Jesse and then they attack Cassidy. Is their test shite and they just assumed Cassidy had Genesis? Or did they know he was a vampire and attacked him since he was there?

Jesse testing out his Voice on Cassidy was funny. Tulip has a natural ability to get people to do what she wants. Preacher breaking his arm caused a lot of problems in Donny's life but I wonder if Donny will still try to even the score after his run in with the Voice. Interesting show.

I'm still not sure about this show but Ruth Negga has been a revelation. I wasn't all that crazy about her on Agents of SHIELD but she is great as Tulip. Not only is she way more "crushable" but she really has owned that part.

That's the meat packing factory from much later in the comics?

Poor Rorschach. :(

In the comics, Jesse's church blew up a couple pages in, and he never went back.

Honestly a faithful adaptation can be a little shit, if there are no surprises.

Though this is running a little slow from a plot perspective (especially compared to the books) and there is some significant fan service with the "gunslinger" and "Man in white suit" being given lone, barely connected introductions, I do love all of the characters on sight and their portrayals. However, were it not for Jesse's pursuers there would be little or no advancing plot to talk about.

Jesse still is playing with his gift and his conscious
Tulip is still trying to drag him back into his old ways
Cassidy is still just bumbling around, cracking wise, stealing communion wine.

There is decompression and then there is wheel spinning. Episodes 2 and 3 did little more than play the same ideas and themes without significantly advancing either plot or character motivation. Conversely, the comic itself was an utter mess for the first 6-10 issues, throwing a hundred ideas at the wall in quick succession with its sheer force of will and charm kept its head above water until everything settled into a proper shape and form.

Still, the look of the show is lush, I love all of the actors, some of the easter eggs are neat and knowing where the story does (and can) go, I am happy to continue watching and wait for it to all completely unravel.

Hugo - in a very unlikely scenario, is also a Jedi

It's AMC. They want a new Walking Dead that'll last 16 seasons. 1 trade does not = one season. What sort of moron would run out of source material in the first ten episodes?

Look at how they used Lenny James in Walking Dead, once a season, for years, following the group slowly, till he finally caught up.

I really want to love this show, I love the comic, but omg it's going soooooo slooooow... :wah: At least we confirmed the two weirdos were angels; I wasn't sure if they were angels or SPOILERS.
