PowerPuff Girls 10th Anniversary Special

Today is the PowerPuff Girls 10th Anniversary Special, at 8 PM

Isn't it a little late? I thought PowerPuff Girls started in 1995.

nope it "premiered" on Cartoon network in 1998 in a 7 minute short as part of "Cartoon Cartoons", a contest Cartoon Network held with 60 independant animators, the winning cartoon would be made into a regular CN series, Dexter's lab, Courage the cowardly dog and Cow & Chicken also premiered the same year, and, because of Overwhelming support those three cartoons were made into series' as well, the first PPG 30 minute show made it's debut Jan. 19, 1999

I distinctly remember 1995. I wouldn't be able to confuse 1995 and 1998 because it was my sophomore year of high school versus my first year of college. Big difference for me in just about everything, so there's no way those years would blend together from my point of view.

So I did some research and I found what I was thinking of on Wikipedia. The relevant part is bolded.

Craig McCracken, a student of California Institute of the Arts, created The Whoopass Girls in 1992 in his short film The Whoopass Stew! A Sticky Situation. Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation selected the short in 1994; McCracken submitted it to Hanna-Barbera's innovative What A Cartoon! Show shorts program (eventually to be produced for Cartoon Network as "The Powerpuff Girls in: Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins" as part of World Premiere Toons) while working on Dexter's Laboratory.[6] Announcer Ernie Anderson, the narrator of the pilot episode, passed away in 1997 before the show became a series. "Meat Fuzzy Lumkins" first aired in 1995, followed by a second short, "Crime 101", a year later.

At least now I know where I was confused.

Orel grows up to be a loving, caring father despite (and because) of the repressionist assholes surrounding him.

well I agree, but that wasn't really relevant to what was happening in the rest of the episode

...of course, that stems from the fact that Adult Swim simply refused to produce 7 finished scripts, so some plotlines had no resolution

well, alot of stuff never gets resolved in life, alot of the "unresolved" plot lines involved third tier charaters, Clay's love of Daniel can be explained easily as a parting of the ways (plus I kinda see things as resolved on that part) Orel's teacher with the Abortion & her boyfriend who she cried "rape" on had gone too far to be resolved and the Clay/Censoredall thing Probably just petered out not long after they started, anyways, the whole of the side stories, while interesting, are moot the whole point of the series was that Orel grew up to be a good, honest man despite the muck had to wade through to get there

My wife used to walk McCracken's dogs. That man had piles of uncashed ten-thousand dollar checks sitting on his kitchen table. He also had a gilded bust of Shakespeare and when you tilted the head back you found the button that reveals the batpoles. When you pushed it, you turned on a nearby lamp.

That is all.

Hey did you know Dexter is a character in that Fusion Fall thing Cartoon Network keeps advertising. It freaked me I when I realized it was him he looks good in CGI.

Well, they've completely redesigned him to fit the anime-esque style of the MMORPG, and apparently aged him to adolescence. There are similarly redesigned versions of characters from other CN shows, including the Kids Next Door, Samurai Jack, Ben 10 (the Alien Force version), and Billy & Mandy.

perhaps the Dexter re-design means a possible return

Well, maybe if the MMORPG becomes successful enough. Still, I doubt it. And the last time CN tried bringing back Dexter's Laboratory, it was a vastly inferior product, because not all of the original creators were involved.
