Spoilers Power of the Daleks

They may be online (whic I didn't know because who could guess the dying bookstore is selling stuff online?), but they're not an online store, they just apparently ships stuff online. I don't buy from random online places, its basically Amazon and Ebay. They're trustworthy, the have used sellers (which I like), and they're just good places to shop online (especially Amazon). B&N isn't a place I'd order online from, and regardless of online availability it doesn't mean a company making an exclusive deal with a dying, hard to find bookstore isn't BS. Luckily it looks like it won't take too long to buy PotD from a good place.

It's a Fortune 500 company but you don't like them because they have brick and mortar stores? I mostly order from Amazon myself but it's just seems like kind of a funny attitude. And it's a lot easier to find their stores than Amazon's.

I don't like them because they're a dying brand that has no buisness trying to take already niche products and make them harder to get a hold of. I mean, its stupid for companies to make exclusive deals with a store that is nowhere near a lot of people anyway, but its a niche product for a show that isn't big with the mainstream audience and will probably end up being almost impossible to get for a goods price when it goes out of print in a year or two.

Making it an even smaller printing by making it exclusive to an uncommon store is really stupid. Honestly, the cynic in me wants to think that B&N offered $5 to make it exclusive, none of the other stores cared to make any exclusive offer, so whatever company that licenses Classic Who in America just went for it. As a Doctor Who fan, that is really irritating. If the deal had been made with, say, Wal-Mart, I'd be fine with it. Its easy to get to a Wal-Mart for a lot of people, certainly easier then finding a B&N in 2016.

Basically, in my opinion niche products shouldn't be sold exclusively in smaller stores unless the bigger stores just won't stock them, and there should never be exclusivity among online stores, outside of special editions or special cover art or something like that.

I never really been able to get into the show but I may check this out. My local theater is showing it and I got a free pass for any movie I can use. I really love the idea behind recreating something from the past that had been lost. Will I be able to enjoy and understand the story as a one off movie though?

Probably. These old serials tended to start with the end of the last serial and end with the beginning of the next one, but are otherwise rather self-contained.

And although I can't attest to this because I haven't seen it yet, I imagine that with it being the first serial of a new Doctor, there will be a bit of exposition as he explains things to his companions and therefore the audience.

Well, someone who knew nothing of the concept behind Doctor Who might find the opening scene a little confusing at first, but as long as you're acquainted with the basic premise of the Doctor, the TARDIS, etc., you can catch up pretty quickly. And the Doctor's companions in the story are fairly recent arrivals (this was their fourth serial, third as proper companions -- and their first trip beyond Earth, come to think of it), so they've never encountered the Daleks before (though they've apparently heard the Doctor talk about them sometime off-camera).

The animation quality of the characters is painful to watch because it's so substandard.

And there's a bizarre error with the "costumes" when they're discussing a change of clothes for Polly & Ben.

Well, it's now definite that BBC America will be showing only one episode of "Power" per week, starting at 8:25 PM, just before Dirk Gently (or whatever follows it) at 9:00. So it'll take 6 weeks to get through the whole thing. Well, at least the extended time slot means they'll be showing them uncut.

There's talk of future animation for fully-missing serials, if this goes well. What are your picks?

Mine are as follows: Marco Polo, The Dalek Masterplan (not the existing eps, obviously), The Highlanders (Jaimie's introduction), Evil of the Daleks and Wheel in Space (Zoe's introduction).

I'd definitely like to see The Highlanders. Well, I'd like to see all of them, but The Highlanders would definitely be near the top. The Dalek Masterplan is another good one (as long as they don't skip "The Feast of Steven" when it comes to the animation ;)). Really I'd be fine with any lost stories being animated.

Ideally, I'd like all of them, of course. But if we have to prioritize, "Marco Polo" would top my list. And it's the one that I'd be happy to see in color, like the Loose Cannon reconstruction, in order to capture the feel of those great behind-the-scenes color photos of the gorgeous sets.

I would expect any follow-ups to feature promotable monsters, so Evil and Wheel, then maybe Macra Terror. Not historicals, so probably no Hartnells for a while, unless the major upfront costs of Masterplan can be found.

Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks premieres Saturday, November 19 on BBC AMERICA and will be available the following day to stream on BBCAmerica.com and the BBC AMERICA app.

Unfortunately, I think it's just one F'ing part though! I thought they'd air at least the first three parts on the 19th if not the whole thing. I was really stoked for the 19th but now I might wait a bit.

That's at least what my DVR is saying.

They're showing one episode per week, as it was originally presented 50 years ago.

Also, preceding its premiere, they're doing a day-long marathon of Dalek stories starting at 6 AM: "Genesis of the Daleks," "Doomsday," "Daleks in Manhattan," "Evolution of the Daleks," "The Stolen Earth," "Journey's End," "Victory of...," "Asylum of...," "Into the Dalek," "The Magician's Apprentice," "The Witch's Familiar," and "The Time of the Doctor."
