Spoilers Power of the Daleks

Okay, so who's going to be watching Power of the Daleks tonight?

Unfortunately, not me as I won't get to see it until it airs in America, but that shouldn't halt discussion, as It's hard to "spoiler" a fifty-year-old episode.

I can't wait to see it, as Patrick Troughton is my favorite classic Doctor and I never thought I'd ever get to see this particular story realized. I even bought The Tenth Planet as a warm up.

I getting it for a while, but I'm pleased there is a telesnaps reconstruction included. I'd rather watch that than an animation.

I'm not sure when I'm going to see it because it doesn't look like I'll be able to see it the one day it's in theaters here in the States. Pity because I'm really looking forward to it and I remember loving the fan reconstruction I watched years ago. Plus, I'm a huge Patrick Troughton fan.

Sounds promising. :D

Honestly, I wouldn't be adverse to the idea of the animators coming up with costume designs that fit with the design of the rest of the serial in order to fill in the gaps. That's how much I want to see the two missing episodes of The Crusade get animated.

Radio Times calls it "enthralling".

They touch briefly upon possible future animated projects. They point out the difficulty in restoring the two missing episodes of The Crusade due to the fact that there are 24 characters and multiple costume changes.
I hadn't thought of that, but it's an extra complication.
Macra Terror would need a decision about whether to accurately reflect the recasting of a minor role in mid-story.

On the one hand, I'm glad we only have to wait two months for the release, but on the other hand, why does it have to be a Barnes & Noble exclusive? I really hate that shit.

Also, I hope that's not the final cover. It doesn't go with the other US releases and that will drive me crazy. :p

I believe the cover is reversible, with the regular one on the other side - at least that's the case in the UK.

I suspect if they do another one, it'd be Evil Of The Daleks, cos Daleks are bigger sellers.

I'm also bemused by the "spoilers" tage for a 50 year-old story...

The US release of the DVD and Blu-ray is going to be a Barnes & Noble exclusive.

TV Shows on DVD is saying it will be "wide general retail" which sounds to me like it'll be available everywhere. They got this direct from BBC America. Barnes and Noble does have an earlier release date posted than TV Shows on DVD is reporting, which suggests to me that perhaps they are releasing it before everyone else. There is precedent for this, Canadian Best Buy stores released the DVDs of Enemy of the World and An Adventure in Space in Time six months before they were released in the rest of North America (including American Best Buys).

Well, it would be nice if its not just a B&N exclusive, but if it takes an extra 6 months I'll probably still look for it on ebay.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what's the difference between ordering it from eBay and ordering it from Barnes & Noble?

Ebay is a website where you can order pretty much anything. Barnes and Noble is a dying bookstore that not only have I never been anywhere near in my entire life, but doesn't have a location anywhere remotely close to where I live. I mean, I like getting stuff for cheaper and don't mind used stuff (although I get great ebay deals on new stuff too, I got Doctor Who series 9 on DVD for less then $20, including shipping, from an ebay seller) but I'd get Power of the Daleks new, its something I'm really interested in. I'm nowhere near the dying bookstore, and I'm sure copies will show up on ebay for ok prices fairly quickly, even if B&N only have a timed exclusive deal on the DVD. So, its either not get it (if its not a timed exclusive), get it months later when its not exclusive to B&N or get it fairly quickly when an ebay seller puts it up. Even if I could somehow travel a few hours to a B&N, I wouldn't give them any money for a BS move that screws over fans of the show. I'm shocked they're getting an exclusive, since its not exactly a big store anymore (although maybe its the biggest bookstore chain left). Anyway, in the end my area has no B&N, but ebay is easy to buy stuff from, so its no choice anyway (even if it was I'd go with ebay anyway because the exclusive BS is insulting). I'd prefer going through Amazon, but if not them then ebay works.
