Pot-smoking neighbors

you'd be hard pressed to find many of friends if you went around all uptight and holier than thou.

eh? I don't think I was quite *that* bad... :(

I just didn't have any interest in any of those things. Neither did any of my friends (and, yes, I did have friends).

In my later years I did have a problem with the sauce, but that was because of a set of circumstances that I am ill equipped to discuss at this time.

I don't see why it's so controversial that people should keep their smoke to themselves.

That hasn't been controversial in this thread... at all. Everyone - regardless of their position on whether the police should be called over this, has said that Rojo has every right not to be overwhelmed by a cloud of smoke (of any kind) coming from below and that he should either speak to the downstairs neighbors himself or speak to the property manager and let him/her deal with it since they are in breach of contract.

No, I don't think kids will be instantly addicted. I think that some people want to live healthy lives and their health is being infringed upon by these drug filled neighbors.

How is their health being infringed upon? Secondhand smoke after being dissipated in the open air? Good luck selling anyone on that health risk, since it wouldn't even be illegal if they were regular cigarettes smoked outdoors except in a few very extreme places.

When you start measuring the weed in parts per million I doubt you're going to spontaneously start singing Kumbaya just because you smelled it.

I have never smoked ANYTHING in my entire life and that's probably why it bothers me so much.
Good for you. Want a cookie? Don't worry, there are no special ingredients.

My lack of trying something has never dictated my position on it. I need to do like actual research and stuff, but I'm crazy like that.

It's your opinion that this drug hurts no one. Most non-users probably disagree with you.
Don't make an ass out of u and mption. I'm not a user just because I don't buy into your crazy unsupported and grossly exaggerated theories about the dangers of weed.

Nor did I say it "hurts no one." It has certain health risks when used in excess, but then again, so does a Big Mac. What I and others have maintained throughout is that those health risks are significantly less than any number of other perfectly legal substances such as tobacco, alcohol, and many prescription drugs, which is why we oppose the completely arbitrary continued prohibition of marijuana as a waste of taxpayer funds and law enforcement resources. Something which you, if you were at all consistent with your usual stance on taxes and government interference in daily life, should be in favor of.

You can rationalize this or any other drug abuse any way you want. Doesn't make it any more acceptable.
It's certainly well on its way to being "acceptable" by a majority of Americans in a matter of a few years with the usual suspects of Christians and Conservatives (though not all, as always) dragging down the rest of the country like an anchor with their "nanny state" policies, which they loudly proclaim to be opposed to while hypocritically holding the opposite stance, as usual.

Drugs are for the weak.
Ever drank a soda or coffee or tea? Ever use aspirin? Ever use prescription drugs? Hell, chocolate is a stimulant if you want to really stretch the definition.

I consider the politics of fear that you parrot on any number of subjects from drugs to immigration to terrorism to be the ultimate in weakness. Trading your or your country's principles for the illusion of security doesn't make one strong. Nor does blindly following the recommendations of your parents or church or political leaders well into adulthood without personal investigation into a subject, which is clearly what you've done here.

Boy, I guess I missed the part where RoJo said they were selling drugs to kids.

The implication here is they're out peddling their wares at the local elementary school and not doing something privately in their home where "kids" may or may not be in the vicinity or even be effected and inclined to care.

Of course, "for the kids" is rarely ever actually about the kids, but I digress.

Drugs are for the weak.

Funny. I say the same thing about religion. Ooh, maybe we should outlaw that! Platform One had the right idea!

Or we could go on with allowing people to conduct their own private affairs the way they want, even if we think their motives are terrible.

Well, those that hold that belief about Christianity are left out in the cold, so that's their loss.

And I don't care if the stoners want to waste their lives feeding their habit in their own homes. I really don't. It's when it affects other non-users that it becomes a problem.

Incidentally, there has been no pot smell since I started this thread.

Is somebody here my neighbor?

In this case the affect is limited to a bad smell. Should the police be called when a downstairs neighbor is, say, cooking something particularly odious?

:shifty:
