Keeping up with all of them consumes most of our free time, but Mrs. Keeper and I wouldn't have it any other way. All but two are shelter rescues; Tiger (not pictured here) was dumped outside our old house during the Thanksgiving weekend of 2003, and Snickers (also not pictured) was adopted from a neighbor who needed to re-home her.

YR - Camping was great and I do have a few pics. Here we are on a beach in Nova Scotia when the tide was out. These two ate enough snails, mussels, and dead crab to feed a horse. They spent the next day or so not feeling so good and farting their brains out. They coulda stripped the paint off the rental car.

Dallie, Age 6 (2001):

Awwww, that's a cute picture. :)
I wonder though, what's the story behind the photo?

We were at a pet groomer's and Dallie was about to get her summer bath (every year we gave her an extra bath at the start of summer to help shed her winter coat), and we just thought the picture was so adorable that we called my cousin (a professional photographer) to come out and take pictures of the whole thing, and so he did. The groomer loved it so much she brought out these cute little hats for pets to wear and we fitted some to Dallie and took lots of pictures. I've got one around here somewhere of her as a daisy head. I love it.

And so, after all was said and done, she got her bath (and a junior cheeseburger because she was good the whole day), and we got our pictures. :D

I just gave my dogs their forth bath this week...we keep the dog shampoo industry in business I think.

My shower looked like someone just shaved a grizzly bear in there when I was done.

Eventually, my sister took in a foster dog who had been rescued from a neglectful owner. She re-named him Sirius. After a year of trying to find him a permanent home, her boyfriend adopted him.

And these next two are staying with me for the summer while their owner is working overseas on assignment. She had been doing research in Puerto Rico when a Chihuahua started following her everywhere, even into a grocery store. After a few weeks of this, with Blip refusing to give up, my friend decided to rescue her and take her back home.

She took Blip to a veterinarian to get cleaned up, and the vet noticed during the exam that Blip was pregnant. They decided to have her spayed the next morning. Blip stayed overnight at the vet's office and ended up giving birth to a single puppy by morning. Initially, my friend tried to put Aiden up for adoption, but she ended up keeping him as well. And, no, we're not sure what he is, other than he has a Chihuahua for a mother. He looks a little bit like a Jack Russell terrier with a little bit of Labrador retriever mixed in. He's about 2x the size of his mother and regularly gets double-takes when I explain how they're related.

Awww I love the little white paws!

He's alright, I guess. We got him not too long ago. He's cute, but he could care less about people. All my other cats have always been really cuddly and affectionate. He just wants you to feed him and leave him alone. Try to pet him and he gets all bitey. Oh well, at least we were able to give him a home. I have three other animals that like to snuggle up with me, so it's no big deal. At least he's not destructive. He's just kind of "there." Maybe someday he'll bond with us more. If not, that's okay. He'll never be as good as his predecessor(Pictured below), Thomas. He was the sweetest cat of all time.

He loved the dogs:

My in-laws have a cat that sounds kind of like that. They said right from when they got him as a kitten, he was never cuddly or anything like that. He's really smart, but not really a people cat. My husband loves that cat but I could never warm up to him. We ended up with a cuddly kitty, but that other cat (Jake) is really affectionate now that he's older. He rubs up against me, hops up on the couch to snuggle, etc. I don't think he'll ever be the most affectionate cat, but we joke about how if young Jake could see what old Jake is like, he'd beat himself up.

My sister took in a cat like that as well. This cat apparently doesn't like people or other cats and prefers to be left alone. Her original owner was forced to give her up when the cat didn't get along with his new wife. Her next owner gave her up as well because she didn't get along with the other cats. And at age 15, if she went to a shelter, she probably would get put to sleep. That was too much for my sister, so she adopted her.

My cousin had a cat like that. She was a Persian cat, named Chia, that didn't like people until she got very old. She would always look out the living room window and when I'd pull up in the driveway she'd stare at me like I was trespassing on her lawn.

Toward the end though, she started to approach me more and cuddle up with me. She'd lick my face with her little scratchy tongue and I thought she was just the sweetest cat, and I'd throw her little plastic grocery bags and she'd bat at them for hours, she loved it so much, wouldn't do anything else. It was terribly sad when she passed (she was 17), and I'll never forget that flat little face with those crazy, out of control whiskers. She was a good cat.
