Post your Original TOS Impressions

That's not entirely so. She appeared at the Cygnus Alpha 2016 event for a program called "An Afternoon With Josette Simon OBE'" (link) and she's scheduled to be appearing on at the 2018 event the 28th of September for “An Evening With Josette Simon OBE”. (link)

Well since she's realised what a cash cow it is to chat about a series she did nearly forty years ago and which she is too big an actress now to return to or really acknowledge!

As a fan? TNG had gone into strip-syndication during the 1991-'92 season. In 1992, the channel I watched TNG on showed TOS during the summer instead. Prior to this, I had only seen TOS in movie form, not the actual series. I thought "Where No Man Has Gone Before" was great. I recorded it and watched it three times the same evening. A lot more exciting than anything I'd seen in TNG. The next day, they showed "The Corbomite Maneuver", which I liked just as much. All it took was these two episodes, and I knew I liked TOS better than TNG all the way around. Big screen or small screen.

Television back in the sixties and seventies gave you a complete episode with a story filled with action that wasn't always needed to be seen by the time they showed the next one! I think TNG suffered from the Lost style of writing where some weeks nothing much happened or someone got trapped in an elevator or Riker found a smudge on his uniform and Wesley discovered acne!

The impression I had in my juvenile head was that the Enterprise was always breaking-down ( Scotty always reporting that something didn't work ). It wasn't until I watched the whole series again in teenage years that I was surprised that the ship mostly worked OK!

The other abiding memory from a young age is the 'flying fried eggs' in Operational Annihilate.

We used to laugh that Janice must have a pane of frosted glass attached to her shoulders for any emergency soft glow requirements.

Just watching All Our Yesterdays. I'd forgotten that I cried when Zarabeth was left alone. I was bummed out for weeks after watching it.
