hmm, boef a la mode is *the* idea! I've been thinking of what I might cook the next few days. I got an antibiotic 2 weks ago and a few mean bacteria survived. Now my dentist told me to avoid carbs so as to starve the mean bacteria out and get the good ones to propagate. No cakes, cookies, chocolates, crispy rolls, delicious scones, puddings or even sugar in my tea. *sigh* 
Dumplings are toeing the line but I think they might be ok. And a boef a la mode /bifflamott is unthinkable without dumplings.

in (i think) 1972 i saw and heard a sousaphon in an us army band (3rd ID, leighton barracks, würzburg) and immediatedly wanted one. i even promissed my dad (a tanker) to play in a marching band of his choosing. the main reason was of course that nobody had one. (i'm well aware of the fact that the emoji shows a tuba)

Many years ago I used to have a dog whose favorite "mess with the human" game was to sit and stare fixedly behind me as if something was creeping up on me until I turned around to look. There was nothing there, of course, and when I turned back around the dog would be totally unconcernedly licking his butt or scratching or something. Then he'd look at me like, "what"? But I knew that he was thinking, "made ya look"! One time, though, he played that game with my sister, only this time there was a snake in the kitchen behind her. So we could never just NOT look, just in case...
