Possibly the only good thing about Picard was showing that Seven and Chakotay did not stay together

Picard has a lot of lousy things.

But I disagree.

(This is not a riff on Tuskin’s post. It is what I really think.)

I was glad C/7 wasn’t permanent. I found the pairing terribly rushed and… I’m a J/C shipper, anyhow.
Same here. Ever since seeing "Resolutions", they've been one of my favorite pairings.

If they were going to pair Seven with a male main cast member on Voyager, either Harry or the EMH would have been better.

Robert Duncan McNeil is a J/C shipper.

Well he thinks that's what something of the writers were going for, he's said he has no idea if it was planned, but just from rewatching the series he sees something there in some episodes.

I do think it’s kinda funny that the Seven/Chakotay relationship is criticized for being really rushed (and it was) and yet the Seven/Raffi relationship was WAY more rushed but it’s celebrated.
I don't disagree with you.

BUT

Seven/Chakotay was a terrible idea. It should've been Janeway/Chakotay. They have a second chance to fix this elsewhere.

Seven/Raffi is something that I could see working, in theory, but PIC devoted so little to the relationship that they might as well have not done it at all. They did rush that at the end of S1, but I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt at the time, because I thought S2 would make up for it. Obviously, that didn't happen, but it was easier to be more forgiving with a show that we knew was going to have more seasons.

With Seven/Chakotay, there wasn't going to be an eighth season, so we knew that was it. They rushed into it and there would never been time to develop it afterwards. With Seven/Raffi, there should've been more time to make up for what was rushed into.

I said this on here once before, I don't remember where and don't feel like searching for it now, but it feels like there was a missing season between the first and second seasons of PIC, even though there wasn't.

Honestly, I think Seven and Raffi work better as best friends than they do as romantic partners. That's the vibe I get off of them. That might not be the intention, but that's what's coming across to me as a viewer.

I don’t think Seven/Chakotay was a bad idea in theory. The two actors just didn’t have the right chemistry…and it was rushed. Start it half way thru S6 instead of during S7 and it might have been better.

I do agree, there does feel like, maybe not a whole missing season but maybe 4-5 episodes.

I haven't watched Picard so no comment on that but in regards to Seven and Chakotay I think it could have worked well if they had more setup and had been played something like Odo/Kira, in becoming friends, confidantes and then lovers. But since the whole thing really came out of the blue in "Endgame" and sprung from a dare by Beltran to Brannon, in the spirit of Voyager I just treat it like a fling and they broke up the following week.

One thing that is a factor is that Seven and Raffi had only just met. Had sparks flown with her and Chakotay right away, it might have been better received.

Or, possibly, not. I never gave a tenth of a rat's smelly hind end about Ezri/Bashir, despite that one beginning relatively soon after Ezri arrived.

It didn't help that Bashir had more chemistry with literally every other character on DS9 than he did with Ezri. XD
