(POSSIBLE STORY IDEAS WITHIN) Who's/what's (maybe) related?

Laura Cynthia Chambers

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Am I crazy, or does this guy (David Troy as "Larry Matson") look kind of like he could have played a younger McCoy in a flashback scene?

Post non-same actor, different character observations here. Like the above. I wonder if he could be Bones' cousin...

This is a place to brainstorm connections that others may not see, perhaps for lit purposes.

Notice how Lee Kelso (in "Where No Man Has Gone Before") looks like Connor Trinneer. So perhaps Kelso is a descendant of Trip?

IIRC, Kelso was supposed to have grown up in an orphanage. So he could be a Charles Tucker VII or whatever, and not even know it!

And I am firmly convinced that Jack, the kid from ENT's "Carbon Creek", is actually Jackson Roykirk, who will one day build and launch the Nomad probe. We never learn Jack's last name, do we? And Jack is obviously a smart kid and very interested in astronomy...

Also I have a theory that ENT's Admiral Forrest is actually Flint, from TOS' "Requiem for Methuselah". Not because they look alike - although they kind of do - but it's just that Vaughn Armstrong is my favorite actor of all time, and I was rather upset when Forrest was killed off. So any plot twist that allows him to live, is fine by me!

I think we might be getting dangerously close to the no story ideas rule here? Especially now that we have a series specifically dealing with the early days of the Federation leading into TOS, which has even introduced at least TOS character's family. I'd hate to see this thread stumble across a family connection the Christopher Bennett was actually planning on putting into a RoTF book.

Anybody can come up with these connections just on a whim, so I don't see the problem here. And even if a writer decides to use one in a novel, there's no way to prove who came up with it first. So who cares?

You can say the same for story ideas in general and we're still not allowed to post them. I'm not trying to back-seat mod here, I was just thought I'd warn you guys that this seemed a little close to one of the board's no-nos.

I'm up for a move to General Trek if necessary. If it'll stop all this crap about legal issues.

I figured it would be, but the audience I wanted was people interested in the books, so maybe if these similarities had been noticed already, someone would have read it in a book and say so.

The problem with speculating about possible family relationships is that it is by default detailed about particular people and that's where the story ideas problem comes in.

The easy solution is that you put the part of your post that's speculating in detail about how people could be related behind a spoiler button.

That way the conversation can continue in here, but the writers don't need to be concerned.

Alternatively, if Gen Trek isn't the audience you want, you could also try Fan Fiction - members of which are obviously interested in drawing new ideas from Trek.

If we're so concerned about appeasing the FL's ...

that is to say, Fucking Lawyers

... why not just put a big STORY IDEA WARNING in the thread title itself? That way we wouldn't have to spoilercode every other word.

I can certainly do that. I'll do it now.

btw - it's not the lawyers we're appeasing, it's the writers we're protecting from frivolous lawsuits.

Why is this thread in TrekLit in the first place and still here after a TrekLit mod has seen it? It has nothing to do with TrekLit despite LLC'S cutesy half sentence at the end of her OP.

I'm not even sure it deserves its own thread up in Gen, it may just be merged with that questions thread which was created to indulge questions like this, which is probably why the thread was originally made here and not up there.

My thought was that it would expand out beyond TV characters into the lit-world. This forum isn't so busy that a thread like this is going to disturb anything. Ignore it, if it isn't your cup of tea.

Have you read ENT - Uncertain Logic and Live by the Code?
