Possible new job: mildly freaking out

On Monday I sent out my resume to a bunch of gyms in an attempt to find a job as a personal trainer.

No more than 2 hours later did I receive an email from a guy at new LA Fitness in Joliet, IL who wanted to set up an interview for me. Awesome, right?

Well, the interview is tomorrow, and I'm freaking out. Not only did I not expect to hear from anyone so quickly, I certainly wasn't expecting to be driving 2 hours for an interview a mere 2 days after submitted my resume!

The guy sounded really excited on the phone, and assuming the interview goes well (which it should), I pretty much think I have this in the bag.

But now I'm freaking out. Not about the interview, but about the weeks to follow. How soon will they want me to start? How much time will I have to move? Will I be able to find a place to live in time? Will there be time to throw myself a going away party?!

I'm on overload right now. This is all happening very quickly. I suppose I should push this out of my head until I know I have the job, but it's hard not to think about.

Hey relax. This is a good thing. You obviously must be good at what you do or you wouldn't have gotten called so quickly especially in today's world. One step at a time.

I have the same problem, I run scenarios in my head it's very difficult to move them out if you don't have the answers to everything.

What helps me is to play with the scenarios for a while - once I have some of it worked out, I can relax.

I don't mean make actual plans - and with the interview tomorrow you don't have much time - but google search property in Joliet, do an online estimation of moving costs - none of it needs to be really accurate, but it helps give me a grounding to move onto the important stuff.

And hey, good luck with the interview :techman:

Yeah, I've been looking at apartments in the area for a while. The good thing is that I grew up around there and that my parents still live in the area, so I will have a place to stay if I need one (though I have no idea where I'm gonna put all my crap).

Crash at your parents' place through the week, use weekends for cleanup, packing, final party etc. Keep an eye open for apartments through the week too (lunch break, whatever).

It'll be a hassle short term. Think big picture. And smile, dammit! :)

Just tell them to give you two full weeks. Customarily, you need that much time to give your current employer notice that you're leaving your job (assuming you won't be working at the bar anymore). Good luck.

As the bar will be 2 hours away from my new job, no, I won't be working there anymore.

I think 3 weeks is not an unfair number to ask for. That way I can work my final 2 weeks at my current job and take one week to get all my crap in order.

I may go to work for the Natn'l Labs next month, I have been talking with a few people that I know out there and I'm on the short list of candidates

I wish you luck with it and watch carefully with LA Fitness. From what I've noticed locally mine has a very high turnover rate (though that may be because of the unfortunate happenings there recently).

Is it bad that the biggest thing on my mind right now is whether or not I will be able to get Halloween off?

It's the most important holiday for me and my friends! It's pretty much the only time we all get together.

Ooh, maybe I can have Halloween at my NEW APARTMENT...wherever that ends up being.

P.S. I've pretty much given up on sleeping tonight.

Good luck with the interview!

I wouldn't worry about the rest until I had the job. I took a job with three hours travel and moved a month later. It was hell, but worth it.

I'm still just trying to wrap my head around the fact that I applied for this job YESTERDAY. Life moves so fast sometimes!

Good luck! Maybe you can put your stuff in a self-storage place while you stay with your parents and look for an apartment.

We shall see. If I get the job, I definitely plan on starting the apartment search right away. I'll be in the Chicagoland area again in a couple weekends anyway, so I can definitely take time to do a real apartment hunt. My hope is that I won't have to stay with my parents at all...but who knows?
